On 10-31-01 I bought a computer in Sam's Semoran store and the receipt was $1,115.77. I bought it in the department of electronic from John on 11-11-01. The computer crash the program and said the program is not totaly instaled. On 11-15-01 I went to where I bought the computer and right there I have the first dissagree. He insist and insist in reading the book, and ask for the back up disc I expalin back and foward the computer don't come with a back up disc (XP system.) He knows that, but he tried to fool me. He said that one part of the book is in Spanish implicatin my infiriority because I'm hispanic and don't understand English. I grab the book from his hands and find the page where it says that it doesn't come with the back up disc. I hit the counter with the book and siad to him, this is in English can you read this. Then he said he has to see the fail himself, I have to connect all the computer (inthe floor) he played and played and played and all the time when the computer started up said the program is not totally installed (like I said.) When I can't tolerated more with my high, high tone of voice (when I said high all the store can hear me) I said in the time the computer boot he didn't believe me, didn't believe me, didn't believe me, I'm loosing my time, f***et. When I looked back everybody was looking at me then he said you can change the program is not totally instaled and dissapered.

On 11-30-01 my family bought on the store of Goldenrod Rd. three speakers mode AVS300 and a memory item num. 94/325 easy to trace because everything is in my account but of course didn't give me the receipt because was a birthday present.

On 12-07-01 18:30 I was talking with the salesman of furniture in the hall of Sam's 355 in Semoran, (not employer of Sam's) and my witness. I talked with the front-end manager, Chrissy Shaw and I was stricly clear I don't have the receipt because was a birhtday gift from my family, I asked please check the computer because my birthday is 12-09 (easy to verify in my account.) I said strictly clear that I didn't had the receipt, I came to do bussiness not charity. I gave my card to her and stayed with the furniture salesman. When the time pass I went to the counter and Chrissy Shaw was with my card in her hand in front of the computer with my account, I was surprised about the cheap program that don't identify the store (that, she said to me) and then John came like a hawn, take the memory (defected) in his hands, I explained the same I did with Chrissy, he started like the same when I tried to change not return my computer. And said How can we know the procedence of this memory? (The cost of the memory of 128mb is $20.00) And I was there only with my word, the computer open in my account, the manager with my card in hand in silence and then (for the second time I grab John hands, 1) computer book, 2) memory)

I broke the memory and put it in his hands again, and I repeat in front of both I came to do bussiness give me one pugraded 256mb, I didn't came to do charity. In that moment I realized that John is a racist, and Chrissy Shaw covered him. She didn't do nothing. Oh-Oh!, excuse me she charged me the new memory with the same card she had in her hands, for that is good my money, and the trace of my account like a regular customer is not important because I'm hispanic (miniority.) The harrasment is like the air you can fell its energy, you know is there and in this case I'm 100% sure that is the problem. When I paid and went to the outside Chrissy came to me, take the copy of my receipt and I gave her my bussiness card. She said she's going to call me, I know she wasn't going to call me but I have to give Sam's a chance before I take another action, I said directly to her eyes that both spited on the tumb of Sam's Walton because in his biography the mayor bussiness was only with shake hands and believe in the word of his customers, he sleep in the same room with his employers when he traveled the nation in his old pick up.

On 12-15-01 I bought (always buying and buying in Sam's) my printer and scanner, when I went out I met Chrissy at the door and she had in the pocket of her shirt my bussiness card and the receipt of the memory I bought from her, in my mind sound alarm or she is using the same shirt 9 days in a row or is expecting to catch me in something wrong (cameras, detectives) nobody, nobody I'm sorry nobody has it in his pocket nine days in a row without a powerful reason. By the way never, never called me. This is harrasment mild but harrasment. My account in Sam's is bussiness and I know what I'm talking about, I talked with Chrissy the day of the problem of the memory and do a brief of his employeers, I talked with Chrissy about John first never is in his department if you arrive to the store at his lunch you are death when he finish with lunch he goes to the bathroom or back where the optic is, I know this because this is my store I live very near, I speak by experience not by name. I came to do bussiness not to get in love or get humiliated for a part of $20.00.

In my personal opinion the lady with a golden smile (Michelle Sura) that works supervising the cashiers, that lady is the ideal person to be front-end manager and Chrissy in the outside door. Chrissy is good giving hugs, kisses, talk, smile, but like manager has poor management, doesn't has the pants to take desisions. Well I was talking about the lady of the golden smile, why? Because when I went to change my computer she was the person in charge and was wonderful controling both sides very good, with the wood of front manager.

Let's go back to bussiness, this situation cause me problems to sleep, I was treated like if I wanted to fool (steal) the store by both one do the other covers, it cause me anxiety. I'm doing all I can to close the account and cut my Sam's card and hand it to John and Chrissy in ther hands and tell them, you both paid the salary of Jack Demboski (district manager Sam's.) When that day come and I recover my dignity that was put in the floor by this two persons. My word is too good like Sam's Walton or other american, I'm Puertorrican and American (born). If my word is not good, my money either. THis situation forced me to open an account is Costco on 12-26-01, but meanwhile on 12-026-01 my family needed something from Sam's we went but I stayed in the car because I don't trust my store mmore, you don't imaging all I afraid because nine days with my bussiness card in the manager pocket shirt and access of all my personal information. Maybe, Jack thinks I'm exagerating but you don't know how it is to live in miniority with racist persons that only bacause of your etnic origin makes your life miserable.

12-26-01, same day, I went to the store in O.B.T. (to buy, buy, buy) not charity a modem for my computer Why? Beacause my lawyer told me not to be near of them and that day I was with my family. But I returned to my store alone bacause I needed the address and full name of Jack, and who better than Chrissy to ask for. When I asked for the information she said let's talk I replay, what for you don't do nothing, you never call me, I gave you time, now is my turn. She replay John didn't call you? I gave the order to call you because we decided that we're going to pay the memory, then she started to walk to the space of John. I said, I'm going to present a complaint in your name looking directly to her eyes. Directly because I'm honest and I always go with the truth. The thing is not who pays for the memory, don't play more with me I don't need charity I need respect I expect the same treat is given to the american white people, she (the manager of Sam's) thinks if give peanuts to this guy that's it, by the way John see me three times in the counter and if he has to call me why didn't say something when he saw me.

Jack, this letter is courtesy because like I said I'm out of here that not means I cant't take future action, this letter is going to be publish in the Orlando Sentinel, is going to be half page and the title is "Nightmare is Sam's Semoran 355". I'm going to send you a copy only for courtesy,Why? I think you love Sam's just like me I'm a member from Puerto Rico, and in here I'm a member since 5-16-1999.

#13 UPDATE EX-employee responds

OEM They think that they can get away with cheating the company.

AUTHOR: Cecily - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 01, 2004

I was really surprised to come accross someone that was mad about a return policy at Sams. I worked in electronics at Sams in the Sanford/Lake Mary area earlier this year and our return policy on computers was 6 months. I thought this was ridiculous as no matter where you go it is normally 14 days and then sometimes you may be charged a restocking fee or may only be able to exchange it for something else. The reason I wanted to comment on this particular story is because I feel that the comsumer had no right to angry or arguing with the employee. They should of never gotten to any explanantion of back up disks, etc. I am not sure what the return policy was at the time but I am sure that the customer could of simply gone to the customer service desk for a full refund. Otherwise, if it was outside of the return policy this customer would be expected to do exactly like any other customer --CONTACT THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER and go through tech support like everybody else. This customer obviously is not telling us the whole story, I would bet that the JOHN tried to help him the best he could. I would bet that this coumputer was either on super clearance or there was not another one and so the customer was not willing to exchange for a different one and insisted on SAMs fixing this one, which it seems like JOHN was trying to help him by explaining how to use any backup disks. A friend of mine works still works at the customer service desk at the Lake Mary location and some customers really treat her horrible. People really have unrealistic expectations when they shop at Sams or Walmart. They think that they can get away with cheating the company.

Please, Racism still exists

AUTHOR: Raquel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 10, 2004

Well I feel sorry for the guy who can't speak PROPER English and in my opinion was discriminated at Sam's.

The sales associate obviously does not understand who pays his check, People, it is Customers. Whether that customer is red, black or white. The bottom line is the customer representative handled the situation poorly and should've provided better customer care.

If he has a problem with broken english then call someone who can speak the message in a professional and courteous manner. I mean I'm sure there are other people of hipanic origin working in this store.

And for all who think the guy is dumb because he can't write. Maybe you need to go back in your history and find out where your people got off the boat. After all wasn't it the Indians who are the true natives of America. Or does their language or culture count?

After working in retail I would of handled the problem with care.

Im not playing the race card, open your eyes honey, that is reality

AUTHOR: Yani - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 01, 2003

I have a little response for everyone who responded to this matter. TO THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR; Look sweetie, the next time that happens, ask to speak to someone with authority, who speaks Spanish, you know that when we Puerto Ricans get pissed we start stuttering and can barely be understood in Spanish, much less English. TO L IN MORENO VALLEY, CA; lets not generalize about cultures with made up words, because the last time I checked, neither Trocka, (which Mexicans use for trucks) nor Bling, Bling are words. There are people who make up words in every culture, and the original author may not master the English language, but that doesnt mean theyre ignorant or ghetto. Oh and my the way Mr. or Ms interpreter, the Spanish word Interprete carries an accent on the first E, not the last, look it up dear! TO AARON, who is whining about people being here illegally, you either didnt take the time to read the complaint all the way through or you slept through your History class in school, which in either case then you had no business sending a rebuttal, let me bring you up to speed, Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the United States of America, which means that Puerto Ricans are BORN U.S. CITIZENS, and therefore have the same rights as you. What is really aggravating to me is that you can employ Joses to detail or fix your cars and Marias to clean your houses and watch your children, but when we stand up for our rights, you try to keep us down, and Im not playing the race card, open your eyes honey, that is reality. TO MIKE; who was so eager to agree with Aaron, all I have to say is MY VERY PUERTORICAN FATHER fought in Vietnam and MY VERY PUERTORICAN GRANDFATHER fought in Korea for the same country that your ancestors did. Their poor English speaking skills didnt matter then, did they? The original author was a victim of poor customer service and ignorance on the part of the retailer, and also carelessness on their part for not having someone who mastered the language help them.

Poor customer service not sure if it's racist

AUTHOR: Sarah - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 16, 2003

I would write a letter to the store manager and regional manager and as high up as you need to go to get this resolved. I have found that most places are concerned with customer service and will do something about the problem. I do suggest that you find someone to help you with the letter because it was a little hard to understand. Written english isn't the easiest to figure out. As to whether it was racially motivated, that I can't say, but I understand how you were trying to describe it. Somethings aren't easy to put into words. I know it's been awhile since your report but I hope this can still help.

AMEN TO THAT

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 15, 2003

Amen to that Aaron.I totally agree with your statement.I too am in sales,an come from a military family.I grew up in the pan handle of Fl,where there is 4 different military bases. So,I never had any issues with people not speaking english, until I moved to Miami Fl.Its very frustating to go to the grocery store an ask for diapers an the clerk doesnt understand you,Which in my opinion,is not fair to me or any other american. What really sucks,is that its like this alot of places in the united states.I just feel that if you get a job in this great land that generations of my family died for an many others, you MUST speak english,if you cant make an effort to learn the language than suffer the consequences,as would happen to me if i went to another country to live.Im not racist at all,I just have a bad taste in my mouth.I could go on an on with this. So,to the topic at hand,if the dude didnt have the common sence to bring an interpreter or ask for one,oh well. You learn from your mistakes.

Customer always right? Not those who can't speak english.

AUTHOR: Aaron - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 30, 2003

I work in the service business and I have a few things to say. Yes, whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? Well, it still exists in many places. However, since our country has let so many illegal immigrants, (i emphasize ILLEGAL) into this country, many people don't speak our language.
Heres my thing. If you don't speak english, then tough luck. Sorry. until you learn the language of this country, you LOSE. I am not racist but geeze, when somebody comes into my store and expects to be helped and they can't even speak english, sorry dude, oh well. learn the language of the land buddy, then you will be treated like a customer.
NO MORE "RACE CARD", PLEASE, IT GETS OLD

Amusing ..incredibly hard time following the storyline myself

AUTHOR: Colleen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 20, 2003

Well, I had an incredibly hard time following the storyline myself. But I'm afraid I have to say that parts of it were hysterically funny because of the incorrect translations.

BUT, do let me say that Sam's Club employees could have called an interpreter as well. In fact, I believe they should have bore the responsibility for doing that. Someone who doesn't speak English very well probably hasn't been in this country very long. Therefore, this person is unlikely to be aware of the many resources available to them. And...whatever happened to "the customer is always right"...even if they don't speak English?

I am an interpreter... ..this was not a racism

AUTHOR: L - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, November 26, 2002

And believe also that this was not a racism issue. I tried reading your letter also and was unable to make out the least of it. You need to understand that if you can't speak english that well and have a serious issue to address, such as the computer issue, you need to ask for an interpreter. Many stores may not have spanish speaking associates, however, you may ask to speak to an interpreter. Most of the times it takes just a few seconds to connect over the phone with an interpreter and then the conversation takes place with little or no complications. So remember sir, INTERPRET!!!

I mean no disrespect, but I speak fluent spanish as well as english and sometimes when I interpret I can't even understand Puerto Rican's spanish. You need to tone it down a little, not speak as fast, and please understand that some words Puerto Rican's say are made up, which makes it hard to understand even when it's spanish to spanish.

This also goes for ALL Limited English Speakers, if you're having a hard time communicating, Ask
For An Interpreter!!!

Sir, if you need to, ask someone to translate the text so that you may understand what I wrote...COMPRENDE?

Why did you continue to shop there...

AUTHOR: Dee - ()

POSTED: Friday, September 13, 2002

if you felt mistreated?

There are many competing stores for you to take your business to.

Also, perhaps you should spend some of that computer money on English classes. If you speak as poorly as you write I am not surprised that the salesman blew you off. Very irritating. I don't claim to be grammaticaly correct or perfect, but at least people can get through reading this message without wanting to pull their hair out.

I really think that this is a case of miscommunication (due to the customer not being able to speak clearly and concisely)and not racisim.
