My husband and I first moved away from our home town at the age of 19 to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. When we first got here my husband was an E1 in the military with one child and another on the way. So we had no money at all. Well we were told of this place that we could go and get a car from that would finance us no matter what with little to no money down. We were told by many of my husbands friends that they went to this place to get there car (who by the way were also only E1 or E2 in the military). So we went to check it out.

We had $2000 to put down on a car. So we went to this place hoping they could help us. Well we got there and they had us look at and test drive a couple cars all about 2003 and below. We finally found a 2002 dodge durango that drove great and was in our price range. The dealership had us financed through SNAAC. When all the paper work was all said and done we ended up driving away in a durango that started out at about 12,000 dollars and ended up shooting us about a 18,000 dollar vehicle. We drove the SUV for a month and all of a sudden the transmission went out. We called the dealership and they told us to call the finance company. So we called Snaac and they told us "sorry you bought it as is there is nothing we will do for" So we ended up dishing out $2500 to fix he tranny. We called up my husbands friends that had bought cars from SNAAC and they had the exact same situation as we did after a month something serious went wrong with there cars. A year after we fixed the tranny other things started going wrong with our car.

Finally we went and bought a brand new car from a dodge dealership and they paid off our POS for us and got us into a 2008 dodge charger. Now that the durango has been paid off I stopped my allotments from going to SNAAC and I am expecting a check back from them for about $500 (the dealership we bought our charger from over paid them make sure we were for sure in the clear with them) So now I am wondering how this is going to work, them owing us money and all. I guess I am going to find out soon.

SNAACS REBUTTALS, LIKE THEIR BUSINESS PRACTICES ARE BOGUS!

I've said it before and will say it to everyone of these rebuttals from this company which preys on young, inexperienced and low paid soldiers.

This is a direct quote from the rebuttal that one of their employees posted:

"Many of the challenging experiences our customers may complain about relate to the selling auto dealership, which we can not resolve."

THIS IS BULL!  SNAAC deals with shady dealerships, yes, I'll give them that and they admitted it to me all the time while I was a manager there.  BUT WHAT THEY CAN DO is FIRE any dealership that causes you problems.

Only problem is, they get YOUR money through the dealers so if they fire them, the dealer just goes to one of SNAACs competitors and they CANT HAVE THAT!!!

Also, to the person who complains about bad judgement on an earlier rebuttal:  that is why SNAAC targets the military.  Many of its soldiers didn't get to grow up like you did and most are like I said, young, inexperienced and low paid.  THEY TRAGET THESE TYPES:  25 years ago before Ted and Becky created the company, there was no market focused on this consumer type. 

I worked for SNAAC.  Is it right that they operated their recovery department for NINE YEARS without requiring them to follow collection law or even listening to the calls they made?  They didn't start following collection law until they put me in charge of the department to clean it up and this only happenned after a class action attorney (the best kind) threatened legal action for violating NC state law!  Believe me, people LOST THEIR JOBS because they spent so long NOT following the law and suddenly had to!!!

I know, I had to fire them.

i know how you feel

i'm having the same problem with snaac. i was young and dumb and didn't know what i was signing. they tact on high monthly payments and interest rates with me.
they recently repossessed my car because i couldn't make those high payments either.
i'm going to get an attorney to get out of the contract i have with them.

Where is the Personal Responsibility in the World?

Reading these posts are almost comical:

1. ALL CARS BREAK DOWN: Over the last couple years, I've had a transmission go out of 1 car, airconditioning go out of another, and fuel pump and alternator go out of my third car. At no point did I call the dealer or the bank. These things happen. Although I'm out of the military, my dealings with SNAAC went very well, but then again I paid all my payments on time and recognized the fact that cars require maintenance and even with maintenance, cars break down. Did you know that cars break down regardless of the bank they are financed through.

Just a note to a couple of you fellow posters!

2. Blame yourself for overspending: I must admit that my favorite post if from the young mother of two with a husband in the military. In the first paragraph, she outlines how her husband didn't make much money, but then said that they decided to buy a 2002 Dodge Durango. (WOW...Can you say Bad Judgement) First of all, very high in gas prices, secondly, very high in general maintenace costs. Have you bought tires or brakes, etc for a SUV lately. My wife and I live on two incomes. We have 3 cars. Our newest is a 2002 and the other two cars are 2001's. All have great ratings on cost of maintenace and great ratings in regards to gas mileage. And yes, we have children, so don't cry that you need a SUV for the two kids. Cars have plenty of room for two parents and two kids.

So although I am sympathetic that this young service member and his wife are struggling financialy because of the burden of the Durango, it is clear that these struggles are a reality because they had bad judgment in regards to overspending.
