Subject: Downtown Predatory Towing

Dear Mayor Bill Foster, Residents & Visitors of the City of St Petersburg. 

Thank You for taking the time to read this compliant about the Skyway towing and the predatory towing in Pinellas County and the City of St Petersburg. This past weekend several patrons and visitors attending the Sunscreen Film Festival that the City hosted downtown & throughout the city had their cars towed away by Skyway Towing.  At one location at Studio 620 on 1st Ave South the lot next to Studio 620 hosting the Latin film category. I witnessed people pleading with the towing crew to stop towing their cars in english and in spanish. As Many people witnessed patrons cars being towed away as the tow truck crew ignored them and went along towing cars. I am speaking up for the elderly lady who had her car removed as we instructed them to stop. She was very upset and said she had medicine in her car and she was stranded. I had to calm her down and help her as she was in distress. I called the skyway tow truck from the sign to return as they just took her car at that moment watching the tow truck's tail lights but they refused and asked to speak with the distressed women and instructed her to bring 200 dollars to an address.  I took the women to skyway towing after getting cash and they refused to give her a signed receipt or the names of the associates who ignored her call to stop towing her car as she felt something was done illegally. I was very reluctant to attend the Sunscreen film Festival with my wife because I know how terrible the parking is downtown. I was so angry about how this women was treated and how the whole night was ruined for so many unsuspecting people just trying to support the first Latin Film event and how it was targeted by this predatory towing in the city.  I took the time to read the Florida Law statutes about towing and skyway towing violated 2 of them: One they continued to tow the car away ignoring the owners requests to stop. Two they did not sign or validate the recept as I witnessed with the women at Skyway Tow yard. At the time they said go ahead and sue its all legal as this low life bold thug said.  I am a veteran and a resident of Pinellas County and I am not afraid to speak up for people who are mistreated and abused. The many others who came great distances even from other countries didn't understand what was going on but paid skyway towing anyway. That was their impression of St Petersburg and reflects poorly on how visitors are treated in this city. I will be contacting local media with a copy of this letter.  Please let me know what is being done to curb this predatory towing happening in the city and let me know why you support such actions.  I will not be going downtown anytime soon and many others I talk to feel the same way.   Thank You for your prompt repley. The abusive towing company is  Skyway towing 1600 3rd St South.  The predatory towing in the city should be stoped its killing and fleecing the city.

Please contact the state attorney's office and the City of St Petersburg to formally submit a compliant . DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS SITE TO CORRECT THIS PREDATORY TOWING IN ST PETE.
