I received a new credit card in the mail from chase bank/southwest airlines. I called the 1-888 number on a yellow sticker that was on the new card to activate it. I got an automated msg. That told me to press 1 for customer service. When I pressed 1, a man answered, said hello and asked how he could help me. Thinking I was talking to chase bank, I told him, I would like to activate my new credit card. He told me that their computers were running very slow today, and because I would be waiting a long time, they would like to compensate the 1st 25 people who called (I was no 22) for the inconvienance of waiting, with a $100 gift card for $3.95. They would also like to send me a special skin cream, (was hard understanding his fast talk and accent) starting next month on a trial basis. (if I didn't like it he would give me an 800 number to call and cancel it) and last but not least, $600 worth of grocery coupons. (he needed my card no.,name and exp date) all this time I think I'm talking to chase bank! So like a dummy I give him the info and I asked him, when we would get around to activating my card and he told me we would have to finish the promo portion of the call before doing that. I FINALY ask him, what company he worked for(smelled a rat) and he tells me smartshopper. And now he needs me to say yes to an automated msg. That was going to give me a confirmation no. and don't ask any questions when the automated msg. Comes up, just say yes. I hung up!! Looked at the phone number I dialed, and I mistakedly inverted the last 2 digits of the phone no. I dialed the correct phone no. Chase bank answered, I told them what happened and they cancelled my new card and issued me a new one. I still got stuck with a $1 dollar charge from The core vision grp, (they apparently work with smart shopper to take advantage of people) when it posts, I will fight it. These ripoffs have to be stopped!
