Every One is not a thief

AUTHOR: Detective Sam - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, September 20, 2012

You cleverly omitted the fact that a police report was filed and that what the author claims actually occurred.  You're only concern was the money should be paid.

1. it actually encourages this type of crime if the thief was gonna get free phone service for the next two years courtesy of the victim.

2. Close minded individuals always attain some sort of power where they dispense injustice and disservice to the community.

3. Lead follow or get the heck outta the way.  go get your commission check from sprint.

Responsibility

I hear stories like this all the time and what always gets me is that the person reporting this sort of thing never understands their responsiblity towards their purchase. When you signed up for sprint service you agreed to pay your monthly service charge for 2 years. In return sprint sold you a phone at a discounted price. That may have been anywhere between a 200-400 dollar discount. You then reported that your phone was stolen. Guess what, you are still on the hook for paying your service charge for 2 years even if you don't have the phone anymore. If you were to buy a car and it were stolen do you really think you can go back to the dealer or auto loan and tell them you aren't going to make any more payments on the car that was stolen?

Luckily sprint does have a way out of their agreement. It's called an early termination fee. You pay that one time fee and that makes up for the discount they gave you on the phone orignially and then you can discontinue your service and don't have to make any more payments. You are still responsible for the cost of the phone that, through your own negligence, you lost.

Imagine what would happen if sprint did not do business this way. I, as a customer, could sign a 2 year agreement and get a free phone worth 500-700 dollars. I could then say I "lost" the phone and not make any more payments. In reality I could just turn around and sell the phone to a buddy for 500 dollars or so for a pure profit. This is called fraud. It does happen, and it is illegal. One of the big reasons service and phone prices are rising is because of this. Take responsibility for your own belongings and honor your commitments. Be a part of the solution not the problem. Thank you.
