  • Stamps.com 1990 E. Grand Ave El Segundo, California United States of America

Stamps.com Offers no value above that which you can get at the post office website. Their business model is tricking people out of their CC. Don't let them have it El Segundo, California

Typical of  antiquated "non service" based companies, Stamps.com insists that you provide your credit card information up front before you even get to find out whether the service will work for you.  I registered for this service one night in desperation because I was unable to log onto USPS.gov.  I immediately had problems with the wonky windows 3.11 style console and tried to chat with someone there to get it resolved.  That was absolutely no help at all and I told them so.  I closed it in disgust and have never opened it again.   Even if it had worked, there was no fundamental benefit to it over and above what I could get from the post office for free.

Today I opened my credit card account online and saw that they had just that day pushed a temp charge through to my account.  I immediately emailed them and told them that I've never once used this service and requested that they close the account, discontinue billing, and reverse the charge for a service that I never used and did NOT WANT.  In truth I had no idea that this was even a subscription based service.

There is no mechanism for closing an account on their website (as any ethical subscription based company would have), and they refused to close it via email, even though the email was sent directly from my account while logged in.   They also refused to credit me back for the service even though they know that I've never once used it.  Taking money from people when you've done nothing for them is unethical Stamps.com.

You know a company sucks when you type [company name] REVIEW and the first link that comes up is ripoffreport.  I just wish I'd typed that before typing their URL in my browser.   When I filed the dispute with my credit card company, i was told that they're listed as a "telemarketer"  which I think that says volumes.

"You are incorrect. If you click on the Site Map link on their home page you will be directed to a page that supplies many links to descriptions of their services.'

Viewing a site map doesn't give you a chance to try the client which I found kludgy and valueless.  You have to input CC info before actually attempting to use the service.

"That's because the USPS web site is at usps.com."

It would have taken you all of 3 seconds to type usps.gov into a browser and see that it redirects immediately to .com.  The original post office site was gov.  This has bupkis to do with the login issue I had, and I suspect you know that, but it's a cheap way to make me sound silly right?

"You supplied your personal and payment information for a service you did not want. Sure, that makes sense."

Suuuure because you've never tried something out and then decided it wasn't for you?  I guess you never, ever return things to stores that you don't like either.  You have some awesome predictive abilities.  You must be prescient.

""There is no mechanism for closing an account on their website""

"Their phone number is clearly posted on their web site."

I think you know exactly what I mean, a method that doesn't require a person to take time off in the middle of a workday to make a phone call and have to get a discussion with a bunch of retention people before they finally agree to permit you cancel.  [Like a BUTTON on a website].  See Netflix for an example of a company that doesn't try to put people through hoops who wish to cancel.

"You should attempt to be more observant before jumping into an agreement."

You should attempt to better understand criticisms before dismissing them so blithely.
