The Hartford raised my insurance rates 30+% because they claim they have incurred increases in materials and goods that, for example, would be needed to replace my home (I have home owners insurance with them) and they raised my auto insurance because they claim that repairs are costing more (I've never been in an accident nor received a ticket and have been with them for over 10 years).

This is supposed to be "the" company to provide the best rate and services for AARP members. Today I checked and I can get the same coverage for 25-35% less in annual premiums. The Hartford is not providing the best rates for AARP members and is actually scamming members who live on fixed SS income.

There is no doubt with the recent rate increase this past year that there are those at AARP who are getting kickbacks for recommending this company to it's membership. There is no logical reason for AARP members to pay a higher rate then they can get elsewhere only because AARP, the association that is supposed to look out for folks over 50, is endorsing The Hartford as the only insurance comany to go with.

AARP as a voice for the over 50 citizens of this country needs to do thier own research and provide recommendations for the best services and politicians for it's members. Yet they endoresed the costly healthcare initiative. They recommend an insurance company with exhorbitant rates. They are no longer fighting for it's members but rather the folks who run AARP must be taking kickbacks from politicians and special interest groups that buys the AARP endorsements.

To the public over 50, be warned about AARP and their recommendations. Do your own shopping and you will find better values for auto and home owners insurance. The Hartford is scamming their policy holders with rate increases that are not legitimate.
