My husband and I have been loyal customers of The Room Place furniture store for 10+ years. We decided to go into the Schaumburg location on Black Friday 2011.

We worked with salesperson Iwona. We were interested in learning more about a sectional in the store. After a half hour of negotiating, my husband apologized to Iwona and said that he is sorry about all of the trouble and feels that because we are unsure, we may be wasting her time. To this she replied that we ARE wasting her time. We were really taken aback by this response.

In the end we decided to make the purchase despite Iwona's rude comment. We purchased a bed, a sectional, a coffee table, and a cabinet for a TV. We signed all of the paperwork and just as we were about to leave, Iwona casually lets us know that EVERYTHING is on back order except the bed. We just spent nearly $4 grand to learn that we won't even have hardly any of the furniture for some time. She assured us it will be a couple of weeks and that she would follow up with us the following week.

A week goes by and I do not hear from her. The bed was already delivered at this point. I called the warehouse to see when the other stuff will be available. They stated it will be available at the END of January! I immediately called the Schaumburg location and asked for a manager only to get the run around. I was not connected to a manager and I was told there is nothing they can do.

I took action and wrote on the Face Book page for the location and told them my story. I also wrote an email to their Customer Loyalty department. This is when Steve from the Schaumburg location finally called me. It was already the middle of December by this point.

I explained to Steve that we were not told about that the backorder situation in the first place and that we were not notified that we would be waiting 2-3 months for the furniture until that point. He offered a $100 credit for our inconvenience and said that he would make some calls about the delivery and then call me back. I never heard back from him.

On 12/22/11 I finally called Steve and asked him what is going on. He said that everything would be delivered by 12/28/11. I was so happy that Steve was able to arrange for us to get the couches before New Years Eve. At that point my husband and I sold our existing couches in anticipation of the delivery the following week.

On 12/27/11, my husband gets a call from Iwona. She explains that the manufacturer is saying we wont get anything until January 13, 2012. At this point we have no couches in our living room and now we wont have any couches delivered. I phoned the Schaumburg location to talk to Steve who has conveniently moved to another store location (or so they say). I now have to deal with a manager named Gio. There is nothing that he can do either except offer me another $100 credit. Mind you we are spending almost $4000 at this store and all we are getting for this inconvenience is $200.

That evening I decided I had enough and I explained to Gio I am coming in to cancel everything (except the bed that had already been ordered). When we got to the store, we had to argue to keep the $100 credit we were given to apply to the bed purchase. In the end they gave is a $30 credit. Thats right, we got a whole $30. I just spent the last month and a half fighting for furniture that I paid a lot of money for and all they could do for us was a lousy $30.

Disappointment and disgust dont even begin to explain how I feel about The Room Place. Not only will I never shop there again, I will be sure none of my family or friends do either. It is unbelievable that they are still in business.

UPDATE

AUTHOR: Annamaria1 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 29, 2011

We received a phone call from The Room Place yesterday that we need to come in and fill out additional paperwork because when we cancelled the order, the terms of the remaining item purchased (the bed) had now changed.

They could not explain why they did not take care of this while we were there the night before. My husband let them know that we will not go into the store any more and if they need anything signed, they can mail it or send someone out. They can't even get their own paperwork straight! Unbelievable!

Also, the reason we did not cancel right away after learning about the backorder situation is that Iwona assured us it would take 3 weeks tops. After careful consideration, we decided we could wait 3 weeks, but no more than that. The whole thing was just a waste of time and I learned a valuable lesson here. In the future, we will not be taking a "backorder" status so lightly.

Was in not canceling the order right then and there when the sales lady told you they were backordered, before you left the store.
