I sent a birthday present costing approximately $50 from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. The box's dimensions were 27x19x14 with a total weight of 10.3 pounds. I was charged for a weight of 44 pounds- the box went ground delivery (shipped Monday, expected to deliver Friday).

I was charged $68.62 to ship a lightweight box. I consider this rate a ripoff! I will never again utilize UPS or any of its stores. Caveat emptor.

Caveat emptor?

AUTHOR: Seeworthy - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, October 08, 2013

Why tell anyone that it is up themselves to verify the quality/cost of goods or services when you aren't willing to be knowledgeable with the facts in question?

The previous response explained it perfectly. If you feel foolish now for publicly stating this complaint, you should. Had you gone to a FedEx Office, you no doubt would have entered the identical incompetent complaint by merely transposing the UPS and FedEx names.

Just decided to waste my time special for this special complainer. By dropping the guaranteed arrival date and some insurance, USPS Priority would only be $87.25 at his favorite post office for that sized box. More cost for less. Or, to be fair, there is one much slower service with out the bleak USPS tracking, zero insurance, no guarantees, if it gets there it gets there and if it doesn't don't whine (but you will) service. So shall we be looking for a daft USPS complaint from this same inept person?

My Uncle is CEO of UPS, my father-in-law is a manager at my local FedEx hub, and I'm an overworked postman that loves my job and is hoping Congress doubles my pension. Either that, or I've been paid well to make shill comments. (Since this complaint was so absurd, I may as well stoop to the author's level.)

Dimmensional Weight

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Monday, October 07, 2013

You were billed at the 44lb rate is because of the size of your box.

The reason is that the size of your box is bigger and taking up more space in relation to the weight, as such you get charged based on Dimmensional weight to make up for this.  But don't think it is unique to UPS, FedEx and other shippers do exactly the same thing.  Oh and as a quick comparison on the FedEx site the rate was right around $60..so you could have saved about $8 by going with FedEx.

Of course the real question is that since you went to the UPS Store, how come when they told you the total you didn't walk out and ship it with someone else?

Oh and no I don't work for UPS or FedEx..I just do quite a bit of shipping.
