By far the worst experience with a tutoring company!
We just won a lawsuit against Top Test Prep for $15,000 (3 times the tuition money amount.)
Read on here and decide if you want to save your child and yourself from the agony of dealing with a test prep company that is unable to deliver their promises.

We contacted Top Test Prep in July of 2013 for my rising senior who wanted to give his last and best try for October SAT before applying early decision to colleges with the deadline of November 15.
After a few conversations with Ms. Sarah Rath, we were convinced that although extremely expensive, Top Test Prep would provide experienced in-home tutors for my son.

In good faith, we made full advance payment on July 17 hoping to soon start SAT tutoring for my son. At that time, I wasn't asked to sign any agreement. But 2 days later, the program director Ms. Veishnavi Rattehali set up an account for my son and made him fill out an online new client survey which unknowingly bound us to the Top Test Prep program. We were not contacted for any of this.

The worst part was that Top Test Prep offered a tutor option that had no tutoring experience. We were disappointed that we had already wasted 2 weeks in back and forth communications. Then Ms. Rattehali came up with a second tutor option based in Washington DC and could tutor only via Skype. We had agreed to pay $200/ hour for live in-home tutoring NOT a Skype-tutor. Our third tutor option had only a year of experience and didn't even contact us for another one and half week.

We were in month of August already, less than 2 months away from my son's final SAT. We were losing faith in Top Test Prep's promises, so we requested for a refund of the advance payment made and not using any of their services. They completely refused to do so. At that time, we started doubting the authenticity of this tutoring company and out of the feeling of being cheated, we filed a lawsuit against them.

The judge agreed with our position on the issue and we WON the lawsuit.

There are many great test prep companies out there - Top Test Prep is definitely NOT one of them.

Student Ripped off by Top Test Prep

AUTHOR: Victim - ()

POSTED: Sunday, December 28, 2014

Hi Ma'am and Sir,

My worst experience with a company! A tremendous ripoff and poor service.  I feel cheated.

I am very disappointed with Top Test Prep and seeking lawsuit advance. I signed on to this tremendously expensive program because I was promised a great tutor that would accomodate my schedule (I'm only available 3 days a week) and come to my location.  I specifically asked if they had a tutor for me that could accomodate my schedule and come to my location - there was a resounding yes.  I was so hopeful because they advertised this program as the best; the best tutors and the most student support. Now I feel cheated.

When I got my tutor assignment the tutor ended up living an hour away from my location with no car and no form of transportation to get to me.  I called Top Test Prep to resolve the situation and find a tutor that could meet with me. They continually told me the tutor would get to my house to tutor me - but he never did. They told me on 3 seperate occasions over 2 months the tutor would tutor me at my house.  We would plan appointments and he wouldn't show up or would cancel in advance or just plain wouldn't make time for our sessions.  Over the period of 2 months we were able to meet twice (me driving an hour to him). This is not the top service I signed up for.  After two months he admitted that there was no way he could complete my hours as he was going on vacation for half of the last month.

Fed up on struggling to meet with him, I went back to the company and again asked for a tutor that could make it to me (for a third time).  They offered me a tutor two hours away that I could meet over skype.  I said no (I paid for in person tutoring) and asked for my money back.  They said they would "try" and have since stopped responding to phone calls and emails asking about a refund.  My tutor agreed that I should receive a refund and also called them and emailed them on my behalf with no response.  The company has, also, not paid him for his hours he informed me.  I am now down $6K with no tutor and with an unresponsive company.  If I don't receive the refund, I too, plan to sue.  I am furious at this point as they are wasting my time and money.

Do you have any advice on how to handle the lawsuit? Or situations seem somewhat similar to me.

Thanks.

Sir or Ma'am,

I am an employee of Top Test Prep and I 100% believe you and what they did to you. In fact, I am a tutor for them and I can confirm that they have asked me to work with students on subjects that I did not receive "in the top 1%" such as the SAT and SSAT, among others. Everything you said is true and they are known to do that.

The reason I am contacting you is because I am preparing to take them to court as well. I am owed close to $3000 by the company, which was owed in August of 2014, and after months of stringing me along asking me for endless tasks simply to receive my check, they have decided to stop responding to all my emails and calls. They refuse to pay and refuse to even answer my call and tell me why. The details of how what they have done to me in the last three months is Hollywood worthy.

I want to file a lawsuit against them and Ross Blankinship, the owner, in particular. I would love to be able to talk to you and gain some insight in how you approached the situation and how you filed the lawsuit and what you did to prepare for it. Please advise. I would greatly appreciate your help.
