TruPanion No refund due to preexisting condition is what they told us..... Seattle Washington

July 29th 2012 we bought cat insurance trough TruPanion for our little sweetheart Cora. August 10th, all of the sudden Cora drops to the floor and start convulsing, spasm, foaming from her mouth and lost control of her bladder. Neither me nor my husband have been around an animal with seizure before and did not know what to do so we rushed her to the nearest animal hospital. They sent us home with medication to stop the seizures if they started again, instructions to come back if she had any seizures and referred us to a specialist.

We got an appointment with a specialist August 19^th, and after a lot of testing our veterinarian confirmed that the seizures were caused by a head injury she got a week before our visit with the animal hospital. (She was playing in our home and got a little too excited, thought she could land a jump which was too high for her, didn’t manage to completely land on her feet and took some of the impact to her head).

In TruPanion’s insurance policy they have a waiting period of 5 days for accidents and 30 days for illness. Now a hit to the head while playing is an accident, which then leads to seizures and called epilepsy which is an illness. However TruPanion does not have your pet’s best interest in mind, only their wallet...

When cancelling with TruPanion we received an e-mail saying “Please take a moment to consider all of this before cancelling your coverage as we are here to provide support for you and Cora, should an unexpected injury or illness occur”. However from this experience I think it is safe to say that it was never their intention to ever provide us with support.

Today, we have paid out of pocket for thousands of dollars for Cora’s treatment but are now in the situation where we are about to lose our house and are therefore no longer able to support for her. Cora is still a little sweetheart with a lot of life and has given us so many happy moments and it is not fair to her to have her life being taken or not receive the medication she needs because TruPanion refused to provide support for her when she needed it.
