U-Haul U-Haul International Environmental Fee = Profiteering & Deceptive Marketing Phoenix Arizona

U-Haul International now offers you the opportunity to engorge their corporate coffers by assessing an "Environmental Fee" to your truck rental!  Their marketing PR is this is to fund their environmentally friendly extra equipment on their trucks, even to purchase environmentally friendly truck washing soap if their corporate customer service representative is to be believed.

According to U-Haul Customer Service this fee is supposed to be voluntary, however it is not optional on their web page, nor at their sales counters.  There is no indication on the web reservation form, nor at the customer service counter during a rental transaction that the fee is not mandatory.

Customer service did refund the fee to me, after several requests.  The first refund was without returning the sales tax. Then customer service told me it was not a taxable item (wrong) and finally returned the full amount, including the sales tax they had charged.

Rip off!!   Profiteering in the name of the environment.  Watch your wallet at U-Haul!!
