Universal Fidelity LP Calls wrong people at any hour, disrespectful customer service Ripoff Houston Texas

Two months ago I purchased a new cell phone and registered it on the DO NOT CALL list. I started receiving a recorded message from Universal Fidelity, telling me to call 1-800-219-8070. The calls were at any time, day or night, including 1AM and 5AM.

Tired of the calls, I decided to call and ask what it was about. A very rude man who refused to identify himself answered my call. I explained the situation and asked who the company was and why they were calling me. He said that there were too many companies to list and couldn't tell me what it was about. I told him I had no debts as I had recently arrived in the U.S.A.

He wanted my telephone number. I gave it to him. Then he wanted my name. I refused to give it and told him that he had all the information he needed to explain the origin of the call and to stop calling me. His response caught me by surprise: "I will call you as much as I want and don't give a crap about the DONOTCALL registry". Some people are very courageous over the phone, notably when their identity cannot be confirmed.

Is this the way Universal Fidelity collects money? Calling the wrong people screaming and insulting them to try to get them to pay somebody else's debt? Don't they have to respect the DONOTCALL registry?

Finally, after hanging up and getting over the bad experience, I called again. Somebody else answered the call and understood the situation. I was told they had the wrong number and was assured that the calls would stop. If I get another call I will update this info.

Hope this helps somebody else. There is no need to take abuse from collectors or telemarketers.
