Universal Fidelity, L.P. began calling my home phone about 6 months ago while I was at work, leaving an auto message that hard to hear, spoken by someone whose first language is not English, mumbling something about debt collection & leaving a number to call. He did not say my name as far as I could tell, but it was really hard to hear, on purpose I'm sure.

I knew of course that I had no outstanding debts, but I was scared that a thief had opened a credit card under my identity or something which could ruin my credit, so I took it seriously & tried to call them back. I told them that I had a message on my machine, & maybe there was some mistake, who are they trying to reach? I would not tell them my name, just my phone #, b/c after all, they had called me, right? They put me on hold & promptly hung up on me. I let it go.

A few weeks later I came home & there is another shady message on my machine. I called them back AGAIN, & they hung up on me AGAIN. I let it go AGAIN. Then during Christmas holidays it started again, while my husband's entire family was staying with us for our family Christmas. The phone rang repeatedly one night, while we were exchanging gifts & trying to enjoy our dinner. I answered it, & every time it was that stupid recorded message....

I tried to call the place, but of course they were closed, b/c it was about 9:00 at night. I was furious enough to call them the next week during business hours, told them what had happened & how angry it made me that the calls ruined my holiday experience. You guessed it - they hung up on me, although the girl insisted we were "disconnected".... right.

Anyway, I was persistent this time & talked to 2 seperate customer service people who gave me the run-around about what name they had associated with my phone number. No one was able to give me one good reason why they have been calling my home repeatedly, & no one apologized or even seemed to care. This is unacceptable - this company completely lacks business ethics, & I personally feel that something very shady is going on.

I think they are intentionally misleading people, I guess hoping to get $ out of someone stupid enough to give it to them. This exact same thing has happened to a coworker of mine, who also has excellent credit, so I am convinced that they are cold-calling numbers - fishing for responses. This should be illegal, & if it is I would press charges against this company in a heartbeat.

At the very least I ask everyone who reads this to NEVER pay this company for any type of service. And file a complaint if they call you. I see that several people have already done so in various places all over the internet, which makes me wonder why they are still in business. Read some of them - it is pretty much the same story. I am going to contact my local news station & see if they will do a story on it to expose this dispicable company for what it really is - a scam!
