i have been hoodwinked by the university of phoenix online. I signed up for classes using student aid the FAFSA. The classes started i had furnished all information needed for financial aid, then i was asked my irs filing status, at the time i was separated and in the process of getting a divorce i filed head of household for 3 plus years, the uop wanted information from the irs, the irs told me that the information that they  were requesting was an obsolete irs form. the IRS told me that my filing status was perfectly legal. the university of phoenix said that  fafsa  was requesting this information, but when i talked to fafsa they explained to me that they were not requesting any information. After going round and round with these thieves i told them i would not take another class until the financial aid was resolved, it never was resolved seeing how they were requesting information that i could not provide, i was set up to fail with no recourse.

so now i have $1770. on my credit report and i will never pay these scumbags. actually i believe a class action lawsuit is in order.

clarification

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, April 24, 2011

I need to clarify!

I Submitted all necessary documentation for fafsa,  the university requested a form from the IRS substantiating my head of household filing status, and yes all of my tax paperwork was in order.
The problem was the form that uop was requesting, it was an obsolete form and was not even a valid form to use.  I had no way to get them the information that they were requesting.

The university of phoenix also stated that the Department Of Education was requesting this information, I called the Deptartment of education and they were not requesting any info from me. My paperwork was complete.

I apologize in regards to the Fafsa comment. I had all of my ducks in a row. I could not understand how my ex-wife could file head of household and have been going to college for 2 years using federal aid and i was not able to file head of household. I still have yet to figure out the angle that uop was using.

Your report is a little confusing.  The process you're referring to is called "verification" and ALL schools who receive federal funds are required to do it. What has happened is that the federal government requires that "x" number of students be selected for the verification process in which the information you supplied on the FAFSA is compared to your tax returns. There is usually additional information (income) that is required as well. U of P doesn't have any control over this process - it's all determined by the feds.

FAFSA does not request anything. It's an application form.

I'm curious as to what info they wanted that wasn't already clear on your tax returns...?
