THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX CONTINUES TO CHARGE ME FOR A CLASS THAT WAS DROPPED!

I have sent evidence by written documentation, and  I have cooperated in a respectful and patient manner with the various University of Phoenix departments,(in the state of Arizona and in the state of California) in regards to resolving a (class drop/withdrawal error) that was made by the University of Phoenix. I have been trying to get UOP to resolve this error ever since it was brought to her attention in 2004.  And all UOP has done is shuffle papers and demand money from me.  As a result of the University of Phoenixs negligence, an erroneous charge of 690.00 has been and still shows as owed on student record.  It is also, evidenced by various documents, and by University of Phoenix staff members (Past and present) own admission, that the class in question was requested to be dropped in writing by me on several occasions before the allocated deadline to drop your  class in question.
Furthermore, the university is refusing to give me  access to her completed degree and official school transcripts, Consequently, According to the university staff letters and Emails, I submitted numerous written Class Drop Slipsto your San Diego, California Campus Finance office, before the deadline  allocated by the university to drop the class in question. I have continuously followed the university rules by submitting the drop slips before the deadline, and was clearly within UOP policy each time I submitted the drop slips, but the university has repeatedly made no genuine attempt to correct this error or explain to me in real detail why I am wrong Furthermore, your university continues to withhold my legitimately earned degree and transcripts.
Moreover, the university staff has continually admitted in writing that, (four) Drop class slips reached the University of Phoenix  Finance office in San Diego before the allocated deadline to drop classes.  Also by the university staff own admission, in writing, I had numerous telephone conversations with University of Phoenix, staff members indicating the same.

This is what you can do to help your situation

I am sorry to hear of your troubles and can relate to how the UOP has unethical ways. Look up the nonpublic postsecondary education commision for your state. There you will find all the information you need to get help with this problem without putting any more money into the money pit aka UOP.

It is okay that others don't relate and have to issue a word of the day. There is some bond between this individual and the UOP that coinsides with the way you descibed staff as acting. I just don't understand what fuel feeds that flame but I smell roast rump.

I hope you get justice and peace with this issue. I hope we all do, and maybe we can help others from wasting their time and money.

OM Goodness the same exact thing Happened to me!

THe same exact thing happened to me. I attended in 2005 They even gave me the same answer they told me I took four classes and dropped 3 of them. When in actuallity I took two classes and dropped the second one. I sent a letter to my academic advisior informing her that I did not like the way the school program was structured and I no longer wanted to particpate at this school.

They later sent me a bill for $3K + for classes I am now finding out about that I know I did not take. They will not give me anything in writting either. They keep trying to get me to sign in to the class website and I asked them why would I still have access to this site after 8 years. I think they are trying to cover things up so I will not go on the site.  I am trying to create a class action lawsuit for the fraud of receiving Federal Loans and Pellgrants under fraudulent pretenses.

FOCUS..Seriously you are bouncing around more than a Mexican Jumping Bean.

You go from stating you have proof IN WRITING that you submitted the drop slips before the deadline.  Then you come back with that no one has given you a straight answer.  It can't be both..either you do or do not have this proof.

You still never explained why you submitted FOUR drop slips for ONE class.

I'm not even going to try and figure out where you were trying to go by saying that even though they got another teacher for the class they FORCED you to submit the drop slip, even though you were the only student.  Let alone trying to figure out if they got fined 74 Million what that has to do with your situation.

Then we get to the suit.  Even though this is well within the small claims limit you are on some tangent that if you tried to sue them you would have lost your house.  Well it would have cost you about $100 in Filing Fees, and another $20-$50 to have them served.  If you wanted to get legal advise before your date it would have been another couple hundred.  But again...if you have in writing all of this proof you say you have then it would have been an open and shut case and you would have prevailed.  When you prevailed they would be responsible for all of these fees.

Of course this is all probably a mute point now, as since this happened 9 years ago you are probably well past the Statute of Limitations.  Which means that even if you finally decided to sue them you the suit would be thrown out because you waited too long.

Now, just as some advise.  Perhaps you should at least have a consultation with a lawyer.  Although they will probably tell you the same thing.  I am not one who would normally just say to "give up".  But you may also want to seriously consider paying this amount owed..especially if you have no further legal options.  If for no other reason than to finally put this behind you.  Or are you going to fight this for the next 30-40 years?  Just think what it is costing you.  How much did the program cost $6,000?  $12,000?  $24,000?  and it is being held up for what $690?   Yes I am sure you are going to say it is the "principal" of the thing, but if you have truly been going back and forth for 9 years you have probably cost them(and you) more in labor, effort, and just time than the $690.

"ANSWER TO WHY I HAVEN'T SUED UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX YET"

AUTHOR: Cassie A. - ()

POSTED: Friday, April 26, 2013

"ANSWER TO WHY I HAVEN'T SUED UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX YET"
I have never been able to get a straight answer from any one at any of the UOP campuses, and I have been bounced around by them for years. I had a new house payment when this mess began, a car note,a family to take care of, and taking on a big university like UOP and dragging them to court would cost thousands, and probably my family home etc.  Besides what really happened to me was; the teacher who taught the class in question, ( Lynn Lunceford) Who by the way is now a big wig at UOP, San Diego, CA., was the teacher who actually walked away from teaching the class (I was the only student) it was a class via Email, I had no control over her actions.  A new teacher took her place, but I was forced to submit a drop slip or pay for Lynn Lunceford's decision to walk away from the class, UOP claims that I dropped....I submitted 4 drop slips before the deadline and  they still charged me for the class and have refused to release my degree and transcripts.
Even though I have tons of proof that UOP is in error, after the U.S. Department of Education fined them 74 million in 2004, UOP staff have become experts at lying, and avoiding the truth when it comes down to their past dirty money dealings.

Me..Her?

You seem to be leaving out some important facts, or at the very least not telling the entire story.

Furthermore, the university is refusing to give me  access to her completed degree and official school transcripts,

- Are you talking about you or someone else? Also, why were "numerous"(4?) written requests and drop slips were submitted for one class? You also state that you have, in writing, admissions that they are admitting they are wrong and your drop slips were submitted in time.  Yet at the same time they come back and won't fix the records.

So why in 9 years have you not taken them to court?  For this amount you could do it fairly simply in Small Claims.  If this is as "cut and dry" as you make it appear, you would prevail and they would be responsible for not only fixing your record but all of the court costs and your legal fees.  Or is truly a case where you haven't told the entire story and it isn't as "cut and dry" as you are trying to make it seem?
