James Hunter, a collection agent with Vengroff, Williams & Associates, Inc. started calling our office in late April to collect on a bill that we have paid.  The bill in question is dated Feb-28-11, net 30 days.  We paid it in March, the check cleared the bank the first week of April.  Why it was turned over to a collection agency in the first place is a mystery.  When I called the billing company, Cincinnati Bell Technology, the woman I spoke to confirmed we had paid the bill, and was also confused as to why we were receiving phone calls.

The calls are obnoxious and threatening.  One of his comments " if you weren't deadbeats and paid your bills, I wouldn't be calling".  Since we've paid the bill, this is ludicrous.  He's now advanced to letters, "Whether through carelessness, indifference or deliberate disregard you have not ..."

This type of harrassment is ILLEGAL.

The letters have a return address of Sarasota, FL but his phone number is for California.  Guess being on two coasts make it harder to him track down.

VWA Response to complaint

AUTHOR: VWA - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 12, 2011

In response to the complaint posted, VWA is a commercial collection agency with a focus on resolution which is beneficial for our clients and their customers. In this instance our collection staff and client would benefit should there be an instance of a debt being paid. Since our processes are to resolve past due balances with payment, if payment was actually made, our collection associates would validate the payment and close the account. Proof of payment is a requirement and I see no indication in this complaint where this information was provided. We do not agree with the statements made as this is a contradiction of our desired goals. While collection agencies come under fire for providing our services VWA is a recognized and well respected company and will manage any complaints via phone or through our website. No such complaint similar to the statements made have been received through either channel.
