Like many others, I had Dish installed. When I cancelled the service I called Dish to see if I had a contract and they said no. So I cancelled. Then a while later I got the nasty letter. Again, like everyone else, I saw no contract or anything that said I had to keep the service.

I didn't sign anything that said it and they have nothing except their terms and conditions. They can change those anytime they want. Actually, why don't we all just rewrite their terms and conditions to say anything we want. That's what they're doing. If something shows up on my credit report, I am going to file small claims and get a lein on their business.

I agree with your comments about the third party contract. However, What VMC Satellite is doing totally WRONG!!! I have conducted many business with third party retailers. my cell phone and DSL are ordered through third parties. Primary retailers are always aware of the contracts. In the case of VMC and Dishnetwork, they are knowingly scamming the customers by hiding this facts. I wouln't be surprised if they are sharing the buck from ETF.

Misinformation/Misunderstood

David,
What sounds like happened is you called Dish Network at the 800.333.3474 number. If this is the case, the rep may have been correct in telling you that you did not have a contract with dish network.
However the title of your complaint uses VMC Satellite in Great Falls, VA. If you had originally gone through them to set up your services they may have had a contract with you.
The current promotion, which has been for over a year now, allows customers to choose a no committment option with DISH. but that may or may NOT include the retailer. They are a third-party and therefore have the option of having a third party agreement.

So if you do go through a retailer, regardless if a DISH rep tells you that you do not have a contract you should always check with the retailer or installer (if you have the number) if you have contract with them. From past experience, most retailers do, because they are bringing in business to Dish Network and they make a profit for bringing in customers, but they don't necessarily get paid if the customer does not stay with Dish for a year, hence the third party contract.

Hope this helps, Tiff
