Next time you read all about the glowing reports of Wells Fargo learn the truth about what a rip off bank they are as far as gouging. They routinely charge a $35.00 overdraft fee for a $2 cup of coffee:
12/22/11OVERDRAFT FEE FOR ITEM $2.00 12/21 CHECK CRD PURCHASE 12/19 JETBLUE BUY ON BOARD FOREST HILLS NY 35.00
They are the very worst of the big banks and just as bad as the worst of the worst Bank of America.
Stay away - they are a predatory bank.

on the web. The CEO of Wells Fargo appears towards the end of that four minute video.
Maybe you should send him a copy of your Ripoff Report, so he knows what is happening to customers like yourself, wouldn't you agree?
Good luck to you.

All banks charge overdraft fees. If you overdraw your account more than $5 then you will be assessed a $35 overdraft fee regardless of the amount of the purchase. The bank by law has to allow your account to go negative $5 without charging any fees but when you go futher into the negative they are allowed to charge you fees. It is in the customer agreement you sign when you open the account. They also over services to help avoid those astronomical fees. One is overdraft protection. You can link a savings account and a credit card, or other eligible credit product, to your checking account and any time you overdraw if there are funds available in one of your overdraft accounts the bank will transfer the funds for you. There is generally an overdraft transfer fee that is usually between $10 and $13. This is alot better than $35. Be careful though if you link a credit card because there are cash advance fees involved with that as well. Also, if you notice that your account is overdrawn and make a cash deposit or initiate a transfer from another account before the overdraft transfer is posted normally it will be reversed and you don't get charged ANY fees. The other option is overdraft service where you can instruct the bank to decline any charges with your debit card that would cause you to overdraw your account. This doesn't work when you have outstanding checks that haven't processed but is helpful in preventing some unnecessary overdrafts. And last, but not least, make sure you are keeping a check register and balancing your checkbook each month. You are the only person who truly knows what you are spending. Online banking is great but it doesn't know how many checks you have written or how much gas you purchased running your card as credit, or the amount of tip you leave on your card until it actually processes and posts to your account. Hope this helps.

"Stay away - they are a predatory bank."
Nothing in your report supports your claim that WF is predatory. I see no reason to stay away.

Don't hold others responsible for their actions and make up a story about the evil, skulking bankers taking advantage of the dolts who don't have enough intelligence to manage their accounts...does that also include you?
The OP makes a point, though invalid, that he got an overdraft for a mere $2 cup of coffee.
An overdraft is going to be charged as NSF for whatever amount it is.
You, Olive need to put on your stinky clothes, get back in your cardboard tent and rally for those, who have, to give to you....you and those like you who don't want to do their share.
People who maintain their finances in a responsible manner don't pay NSF fees to ANY financial institution.

But the OP used money that he/she didn't have and essentially wanted a free loan from the bank. It doesn't, and shouldn't work that way.
Overdraft fees have been around at least for decades.
The banks do plenty that makes me mad, but overdraft fees are fair.
Some people never learn to keep track of how much money they have available and they should suffer the consequences. I don't see the problem and the solution is simple and has been spelled out here by many people ad nauseum (sp?).

Olive, what was posted is true. Credit unions charge overdraft fees just like the "evil banks". Of course, instead of addressing that, you go off on some tangent. Typical of the people who have spent the last few months spouting about the "99%". Do you support the evil credit union or don't you?
Do you think this might be a problem with the OP not properly maintaining his checking account, or do we give everyone a pass? How do you think the local credit union would feel about that?

and you might be one of the 1%. The bank didn't do anything to the 99% that they could not have avoided in the first place.

Guess what Credit Unions charge Overdraft fees as well if you overdraft your account.
If you want to avoid overdraft fees there are many ways to do that. Unfortunately since I doubt you will be able to comprehend concepts such as personal responsibility it would be useless to explain it to you.

Its time to crawl back to the cave they belong in.

Never fear, these banks are on their way out.
Close your accounts with these people and go to a local Credit Union.
Bank of Americas days are numbered also.Do not buy into those sappy ads they have slapped together showing what heroes they are for giving loans to minorities.
They just lost a law suit, in which they were screwing thousands of minorities out of earned lower rates.
Support OWS, they are fighting for us.
