I tried to use my Wescom Visa Gold card (that I have held for 14 years!) the other day only to be told it was expired. When I called Wescom to find out why I still had not received the new one, they informed me that they had closed the account! They claim they hold the right to close an account for any reason. I told them they have to NOTIFY me! They claimed they sent me a letter w/ a particular date. When I dug up the last statement I had just received, it was dated AFTER this supposed letter...yet, oddly enough, did NOT reflect ANY changes to my account! You would think it would state the account was closed!

As I was speaking to the customer service rep, I told her I was looking at the account online and it showed an available balance. All of a sudden, the screen went blank and then said it had logged me out due to inactivity for too long a time. When I logged back in...what do you know! The account all of a sudden said zero balance! As if my phone call had initiated all of this!

After researching Wescom, I have found that they may be the next bank to go belly up! They make bad loans to themselves (Board of Directors) and have too many credit accounts opened. To pay for all of this, they are now charging monthly fees for services that used to be free. Or if you jump thru 5 fiery hoops, you can get free checking. Whoopee!

They also are doing the whole BofA trick of holding ATM debits too long and then putting them through out of chrono order to gain as many fees as possible. They actually held an ATM debit for 17 days on me, once! They claimed they had no control, but the store said they had never heard of a bank holding one for so long and there was no reason why it should have sat there like that.

AT&T Union needs to rethink their association with this "Credit Union"! They have gone way down hill! Look them up in any review and watch the REVIEWS GET WORSE as time progresses! I predict they will go belly up very soon.

Jim- Did you read the post??

Obviously, you lightly read the original entry. The card was not actually expired. Wescom closed it w/o alerting me. There wasn't an outstanding balance...ei: I am not trying to use money I do not have.

I was later told by Wesom that the card had been closed due to inactivity. In other words, they were not making any money off it! Yet, no contact was attempted by them to alert me to this?? I think THAT'S the bigger issue here!

I must say, they have discontinued certain things they were attempting back in 2010. I have not had a single problem since I made a big stink with them and held them accountable! They reinstated my card, refunded fees, and personally CALLED me to apologize!

Obviously, if they admitted they were in the wrong, I am not the one to be chastised for what we all know were hinky practices all of the banks were doing a few years back!

People who like to bash others are ignorant and lacking the entire picture. And lacking any sense of desire to further the greater community welfare. Just sit back and let the responsible citizens raise the alarm and plow forward to repair. You be the armchair Monday morning quarterback and act like you care. K? But we all see thru your thin veil of fiscal sophistication.

How Sorry Is This?

You have this card, right?  It has the EXPIRATION DATE on it, right?  And YOU don't know when it expires???  Then the NSF fees...what does your CHECK REGISTER say?  Or, is this just the case of someone TOO LAZY to keep records and maintaining a RUNNING BALANCE and then using the card without having a clue what the balance is?  Oh yes, its a great big conspiracy and they are so, so illegal!

Wescom...start increasing those NSF fees!  Make even MORE MONEY of these lazy people!!!  GOOD WORK, Wescom!

Welcome charged me debit card fees I couldn't keep up with

I also was a victim of Wescom and their fees. I call it the $35 cup of coffee bank. This bank was scandalous in its practices of holding out to put small debit card purchases through until you had a large check clear or you had less than what you needed to have in your checking account. Many times they create this domino effect by putting a $ 3 cup o coffee debut through just prior to a rent check for example, so tat the rent check bounces , you are charged a $30 fee, as there is then not enough or the coffee.

These were times when I was out of work, with a permanent disability, with 3 kids. Anything I would then use the bank for later, such as an auto deposited check, would be debited so many fees each month that the bank charged me for the delay of debiting my account accurately. I would hardly have any money left and the hole in my financial life became so deep, but Wescom was covering me in the dirt! I wrote a long letter to this company when they wanted to lock me out of my account, stating that I take ownership for my mistake of not writing every single time I swiped my card down.

But they were also notorious for not giving you an accurate, current balance on the Internet or the tele banker. So you would really think you had more in the bank then you actually did. Again they would take no responsibility for this.

My issue was this: if a bank can instantaneously do all other transactions to reflect current balances, in this computer age, not to mention it being their job to be accurate, why pick and choose time frames to debit your account, lying in wait to defraud you to cause chain reactions of fees in your account. I had Starbucks purchases taking 4-6 days to be extracted from my account! The bank blamed it on Starbucks but when I switched banks, it was in an instant these debits would come out of my account. I've never had issues with bank fees since Wescom, but I was defrauded thousands of dollars when I was with them. And not the first I heard of this with Wescom.
