I WAS READING SOME OF YOUR COMPLAINTS AND READ ONE UNDER CATEGORY, BUILDING PRODUCTS, ABOUT SOMEONE WHO'S WOLVERINE VINYL SIDING HAD MELTED. WELL JUST SO THEY DON'T FEEL ALONE, I HAD SOME MELT ,FROM THE REFLECTION OF THE SUN OFF OF A WINDOW. IT TO WAS WOLVERINE SIDING, I NEVER REPORTED IT TO THE COMPANY, I JUST FIGURED THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANY THING ABOUT IT. IT WOULD BE A GOOD P.R. GESTURE FOR WOLVERINE TO REPLACE THE MELTED SIDING, AND MAYBE ADVISE ON A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. I PLAN ON PUTTING UP SOME LATTICE THAT WILL BLOCK THE SUN LIGHT FROM REFLECTING OFF OF THE WINDOW AND ONTO THE SIDING. ONE DAY DURING THE SUMMER ABOUT 3 P.M., I WENT OUT SIDE TO THE MELTED SIDING AREA AND NOTICED HOW THE SUN LIGHTS REFLECTION OFF OF A 4' X 5' GLASS WINDOW WAS CONDENCED TO A LONG, NARROW ,VERY BRIGHT, VERY INTENCE HOT LIGHT, THE LIGHT WAS REFLECTING ONTO THE VINYL SIDING , IN A CORNER NEXT TO THE WINDOW, THE LONG NARROW REFRACTED LIGHT FIT THE MELTED SIDING EXACTLY.I DON'T THINK THAT LETS THE COMPANY OFF THE HOOK, THEY SHOULD ADVISE CUSTOMERS AS TO THE PROBLEM. AND IN A GOOD GESTURE REPLACE IT. I,M GLAD I DON,T LIVE NEXT DOOR TO A GLASS HIGH RISE.

Not a siding problem, but the neighbors windows most likely

AUTHOR: Carl - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Wolverine vinyl siding is one of MANY vinyl sidings that will melt due to the intensified heat that can be created from the "magnifying glass" effect that can be created by windows. This is not something that is a result of the vinyl siding manufacturer or any of their processes in manufacturing the product. This is a result of the fact that in insulated glass window units (Most of which had some sort of argon gas between the two panes) the gas slowly leaks/dissipates from between those two panes (over time) and actually causes a vaccuum like "sucking" problem that causes the glass to curve in beyond what it should be. This curvature in the glass can sometimes at the proper angle of the sun, cause this magnifying effect. Companies such as Andersen windows are VERY familiar with this problem in the past and do try to do things to prevent it, but I do believe that your gripe is not with the vinyl manufacturer but with the fact that your 20 year old windows which no longer have much of an insulating factor any way....are due to be replaced. A courteous neighbor would most likely replace the melted siding on his/her neighbors house as a result of his windows.

CHECK WINDOW GLASS

AUTHOR: DON - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 19, 2004

I work for a company that handles several siding lines. i have seen siding on two homes that have melted, in both of these cases the windows had collapsed glass (meaning pressue on exterior caused the glass in the center to bow inward, which in turn cause a magnifing affect on siding.)

i'm not saying thats your problem but it is worth checking.
