I asked for information from aarp months ago and have been subjected to a slew of junk mail since. They never sent the free gift promised and the then they sent me a "final notice" bill saying "thanks for joining" and "welcome to aarp". They are deceiving seniors and I asked for information from aarp months ago and have been subjected to a

notice for this. should be put on notice for this.
They are trying to get seniors to just send the money thinking maybe they forgot that they signed up.

Did you give them your bank account info? If not just ignore them.
15 years ago my brother in law retired and decided to travel, he had his mail sent to our home. He never joined AARP or inquired about it. He died 10 years ago, AARP is still sending him the "final notice" thing.
Same thing, my 50th birthday was last fall, I get AARP junk mail every week. I don't even open it. Today an unopened envelope that said "Final Notice" went straight to the shredder.
If you didn't give them bank account info, just throw the junk mail in the garbage or shredder.

I made the mistake of joining AARP years back. Since that time I've been subjected to emails, mailings, phone calls - all junk!! Called them about it a few years back and complained about them (AARP) selling their membership lists and was told "Oh we only give them to people we think might have services/items you'd be interested in!" Yeah, RIGHT. I've been emailing AARP for MONTHS trying to get off all of their freakin' mailing lists. I've filed a complaint with the BBB and AARP's response to that was unbelievable! According to their response to the BBB, they couldn't find me in their lists because they didn't have my complete address!! EXCUSE ME?? I'm getting all this junk mail and you can't find me?? You don't have my complete address?? Please, let me send all this mail that you didn't send because you don't have my completed address BACK to you! Seriously, what company in their right MIND doesn't have a list of all membership NAMES!!! Boy, did I fire back a response to BBB telling them NO, I most certainly was NOT satisfied with AARP's response. That was in early May and I have documentation dating back to last fall (2010) of my attempts to get my name removed. "It will take 6-8 weeks to get your name removed." So of course this week (week of 6/12/11) I get yet ANOTHER junk mail from them! People, don't EVER EVER sign up for AARP!! Their "discounts" are NOT worth the aggravation (and seriously, the "discounts" aren't great either!).

Yes, Susan, unfortunately I joined. Biggest mistake of my life. I've been getting "Final Notices" now for more than 2 years (when my membership expired). Sometimes for fun, I put other junk mail in the return envelopes (always making sure my name/address is NOWHERE on it) and send it back, or an empty envelope or ad inserts! Gives me a giggle anyway. Just make sure and tell all your friends not to ever join. Again, like I say, the discounts aren't worth it and I see there are loads of complaints on here about their auto and home owners' insurance as well!

This is not a rebuttal per se, just a reply. I wanted to make people aware of these scam practices. i have seen them over and over again when I lived in NY and now while I'm living in LA. They prey on maybe confused seniors. This is actually worse than those "you have just won" notices where someone calls a number and then they try to sell some crappy vitamins in order for you to pick up a cheap prize. This shouldn't be allowed in any fashion.
