In my opinion, Air Quality Control Agency (
www.mitigationsystem.com) does not stand behind its Radon remediation system, and its warranty is illusory. In their conversations with me, various representatives of the company promised that their radon remediation system would reduce radon levels in my home to levels below EPA recommended guidelines (4 pCi/L). In its proposal to me, and on their website ("Guaranteed Results") they promised that their radon system would reduce radon levels, but to a more vague level, sometimes described as "Typically . . . below 1" pCi/L, and in other places described as "as close to ZERO as mechanically achievable."
However, when the system did not perform as promised, I was told I would have to pay additional money to have the system altered and improved. The service representative pointed to language in the company's rather convoluted Performance Warranty to support the company's position. I disagree that the Performance Warranty supports the company's position, which, as far as I can tell, can be summarized as follows:
1. The system is warranted to work to reduce Radon to acceptable levels. (Although the EPA and the World Health Organization describe acceptable as less than 4 pCi/L and 2.7 pCi/L, respectively, this company seems to define acceptable as whatever radon level the system in question is able to achieve.)
2. If, for some odd reason, your definition of acceptable is more in line with the EPA's than with the company's, and the system does not reduce the radon levels below 4 pCi/L, you can pay additional money to have alterations done.
3. If the system still does not work to reduce radon levels to acceptable levels, you can pay even more money to have additional alterations done.
4. If the system still . . . . . . You get the idea.
I would avoid this company.
