The Haven At Knob Creek Apartments Toxic 2nd-hand smoke fills my apartment - they are ignoring all of my reqests for help Johnson City Tennessee

I'm a resident at The Haven in Johnson City and am having problems getting anyone to respond.

My family and I recently moved into The Haven at Knob Creek in Johnson City, TN. We have been really enjoying the apartment and all of the great amenities.

About three weeks ago we noticed cigarette smoke odor coming into our apartment. My wife and daughter are allergic and both had reactions after 2-3 days when the odor did not subside. In addition, my daughters' asthma flares up along with the allergic reaction. In an effort to fix our problem we went out and purchased a $600 Oreck Air Cleaner…ran it for days with no decrease in the odor. We've tried everything…windows open for days, closing-off vents, closing off the Master-bedroom where the odor is concentrated…nothing is helping. When we signed the lease, the last thing we expected was to have problems with second- hand smoke from the other units. This is not an acceptable situation.

Out of desperation, I contacted Teresa, the local manager, and she sent over a Maintenance Tech, who said he smelled the odor but could not fix it. The next day, Teresa indicated she and another maintenance person could not smell anything. I don't mean to offend, but Teresa smokes, and probably is incapable of detecting this. She also told me the Maintenance person she took with her could not smell anything either. Teresa mentioned she would speak with someone and call me back immediately. That was five days ago. I've been polite and only called once a day, having to leave messages each time since everyone seems to be too busy to answer the phone, and Teresa is too busy to call me back.

We're now 4 weeks into this problem and see no help, and no relief. The Master-bedroom is useless to us (my wife has been trying to sleep with our daughter in a twin bed), and without the windows open, the odor begins to encroach into the rest of the apartment. My wife and daughter are going to have to go live with relatives until we find a resolution, needless to say, I'm not very satisfied and am reaching out to let anyone know that if you do not like to live with 2nd-hand smoke, becareful where you rent.
