ABBA - IAC - Independence American Health Insurance My agent lied to me! Irving Texas

First I fell for his sales pitch when he sold me a MidWest National policy several years ago. Then he calls me saying he wanted to help me get rid of the bad coverage and sold me something called an "Economical" plan with Independence American and told me I had full major medical coverage.
What a liar! I had to go in for a series of tests including two MRIs and a CAT scan among other things. I was shocked to find out I only have a $2500 maximum benefit PER CALENDAR YEAR for these things. I ended up paying close to $10,000 of my own money while the insurance company only paid $2500 for these tests.
To make matters worse, this policy doesn't have any prescription drug coverage and he told me I did. What I have is a crappy little drug discount card and I"m now spending over $500 a month for medication.
I've applied with two other companies to try to dump this terrible coverage but now due to my pre-existing condition, I have to wait in order to be able to get approved. I'm stuck and the agent won't even return my phone calls!!
I've read all the horror stories about MidWest and MEGA and it seems like this company is training it's reps to use the same lying sales tactics to sell Independence American. The broker who tried to help me get other coverage told me a lot of ex MEGA and MidWest agents have joined this company. He also said that after reviewing my policy it's just a piece of junk and that the ABBA benefits are also junk and not worth paying for.
How do these agents sleep at night?

Mary,
Any if the Independence American Plans DO NOT have internal policy limits for any services rendered...this statement is absolutely untrue and slanderous!!! If you truly have a complaint about your coverage I challenge you to take your concerns directly to the corporate company...to date there have been no such claims from you or anyone else alleging anythong remotely to what you are claiming in your report...

Don't worry sweetie...the GA DOI is about to get an earful and your company is lying to YOU as I have called to complain. As far as you calling my statement slanderous, why don't you go read the policy and educate yourself. You obviously only know what you are told and haven't bothered to check the facts. How many policies have you sold by being so uninformed anyway? I hope your E&O coverage is paid up and has high limits.
I quote:" Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Copay: (Includes, but not limited to: MRI, CAT Scan, PET Scan and Nuclear Imaging Tests) $100 copay per test for each Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging test;covered charges will then be subject to any applicable calendar year deductible and 80% preferred provider;60% non-preferred provier coinsurance;UP TO THE MAXIMUMCALENDAR YEAR BENEFIT OF $2500 PER COVERED PERSON. Once the maximum benefit is exceeded charges incured for outpatient diagnostic imaging testing will NOT be considered COVERED CHARGES for the balance of that calendar year."
While we are on the topic, the broker I'm now dealing with to try and find other coverage clued me into a coupla other hidden limits not found in a NORMAL major medical plan...1-while there are annual $ limits for routine physicals every year there are NOT limits on colonoscopies etc. and 2 - if my lifetime coverage is 1 million why are you limiting coverage in any one year to 500K??
Your coverage sounds a lot like those other two snakes...MEGA and MidWest. Seems like you guys should have learned your lesson by now.
By the way, the policy that agent sold me WITH limits and 1 million lifetime max is costing me $391 per month. To date, I've found 4 other major medical companies with no internal limits and 2-5 million lifetime max all for under $300 per month. Better coverage, less money...but right now I'm stuck with the junk he sold me until I've been released from my doctor's care.
