When American Family opened a branch office in our town we found the prices excellent and the agent placed there eager to help her customers professionally. After two and a half years with them for auto insurance we also tranferred the business insurance.

Suddenly our agent began forgetting to change our policy as requested, caused additional problems at the DMV for insurance verifications and in general unavailable more and more. Our policy began to increase every quarter without explaination our inquiries were never given the attention to answer what we were concerned with and suddenly we had a new agent in the branch. Phone calls were never returned so we therefore another company quoting us better coverage for 1/2 the money annually. Our business insurance began to have problems and the local branch told us things like they didn't have the corporates phone number and would have to wait for email response and they could no longer write claims because that part of their customer service ability had been taken away.

A particular claim which involved our vehicle backing out our driveway in the dark and ran into a vehicle parked across our driveway was reported to our agent but we were disputing it as the owner of the other vehicle refused to stay until the police arrived for the report because she had been drinking at a party. The local agent allowed the claim to go through after the lady went into our agents office with her claim even though we told her not to do it. Now we have a loss claim on this incident our rates went up after a year period of time and a mark on our insurance records. Corporate refused to investigate any of this. We cancelled and moved on to a more reliable company now.

A high priced insurance agent is worthless if they do not provide any type of customer service value or respect for their clients.

Poor Customer Service

That's unfortunate that you had a bad experience with an American Family agent. Typically, they are great at customer service and being available when you need to speak with them or their staff.

As far as a policy increasing every quarter...impossible. Auto policies are 6 months long at a minimum, so the increases would be semi-annually. Did you ever think that one of those increases in your price was because you hit another persons car?!?!?!?

If you got transferred to a new agent, the previous agent was probably a poor one and had been let go by the company. A different agent in the area probably took over her whole book of business. Whenever an agent takes over another agents book of business, it's extremely difficult to call everyone and address their concerns in a timely manner. Did you give this new agent enough time to answer your concerns or are you being unrealistic and wanted a call back within 10 mins?

Going back to the claim.....just because a person is drunk at a party doesn't give you the right to hit their PARKED car. That's like saying.."the guy in front of me came to a stop too quickly so I hit him". Doesn't work that way...you have to give yourself enough room to stop, just like you need to look behind your car before you start backing. If there was a question as to who's at fault, the insurance would look into it. You think they would want to pay for this person's car if it truly wasn't your fault? C'mon, be realistic.

It's people like you who don't accept responsibility for anything and feel that "the world is out to get you". Like I said, be realistic and understand that your not the most important person in the world. I'm not saying that customer service is required...absolutely it is, but just because things don't go exactly how you THINK they should doesn't mean it's wrong.

that you comment on almost every file for american family insurance... perhaps because you work for them? or maybe its just because you feel the need to browbeat people?

if you don't have anything nice to say you should move along. i think this poster is well aware that some of this is their fault, but lack of customer service, ever increasing rates, and retarded people who never call back is not because of him/her. and blaming the delay on the fact that they might have recieved a new person in charge of accounts is BS. if i call, i dont care how busy you are, you better be finding me an answer.

in the 25 years ive lived in vegas every person i know who has had amercian family, worked with amercian family, has a claim with amercian family, ANYTHING wtih american family..has been treated like crap. and its big headed people like you that makes me believe it must be company policy.

prove me wrong and say your just rude and inconciderate all on your own.. at least it will give me some hope for this company to turn around. but i wont hold my breath

Not Irony - Just the truth

Telling the truth is not browbeating people. Is it a crime to want people to take responsibility for their own actions?

I'm from the Madison Area...American Family's headquarters city. I used to work in Insurance. So when I'm killing some time and looking around the internet, I looked for complaints about a company in the city I live in and in a field I used to work in. So I read the complaints and none of them made much sense.

People with complaints that when you cut down to it, don't hold any water.
