I have investigated this company and here's what I have found:
This company is capitalizing on the current market conditions - there are alot of good people out of work that are in dire staights and this company seeks to take advantage of them in the most dishonorable way: They approach you from a "this is the right company and we do the right thing" angle - yet your very first interaction with them is paying them $285.00...... for a background check..... yeah right. You do not have to pay an insurance company a fee for a background check, and also it is not decribed as such in your contract or paperwork, but none of these clowns ever read any of that. It is a simple recruitment fee that the company keeps and uses for their own interests. In addition to that, the Regional who recruited you is paid to recruit you, and that money comes out of the $285 - anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you plain and simple.
The other thing you should keep in mind as an agent (if that's really what you want to be) - you can get your license quickly by yourself, get appointed with a number of different companies - Major Medicals, Guarantee Issue, Life Insurance, Disability, Senior market, etc - and then simply help as many people as you can without being a "one trick pony" stuck selling only one product from one company that is too small to truly help anyone. Matter of fact - IAC is not only small, but NEW to the health insurance gig - so there are 2 major issues with this as an agent - pricing is way off because they have no history (so are rate increases - this last year despite what you have been told, the rate hikes were over 25% accross the board - do your research) - and second - the underwritting (getting people issued) is extremely slow and limited. The underwriters are located in Wisconsin in a dumpy little office, it's about a total of 12 girls who are used to handling a few dozen applications - they are not equipped to handle what they get today - and any agent who has written business for IPA can tell you how bad the underwritting is.
People like Rick Pertile, Mark Hunt and David Keeler are all about making money for themselves and it is obvious. The captive agent distribution model is extremely profitable for the Insurance Company and the leaders of the company and it's all in how they pay you. As an agent - there is a President, Vice President, National Vice Presidents, Regional Leaders and Divisional LEaders who all make a percentage off of your hard work. They LEND you the money you are paid - it is not an income - it is an advance thet you will pay INTEREST on - and I believe it is 1.25% compounded monthly - which is RIDICULOUS - not one other company aside from UGA (MEGA, CORNERSTONE, look them up - they are a real treat...LOL) charge interest on monies paid to agents.... NOT ONE...... This interst by the way - is declared as an INTEREST BEARING ASSETT to the company - so on paper it looks as though the company is much more profitable than it really is - thereby increasing the value of the stock (which is where the BIG money is for the HIGHER UPS) -
Long story short - this is NOT a good company to work hard for. You will NOT be your own boss - because the very nature of the CAPTIVE AGENT DISTRIBUTION MODEL is designed to shackle you with debt.
DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE MADE: worked hard for IPA - didn't make any money because the pay is horrible - you get a 6 month advance on 20% (which means you get 10%) and you will NEVER see the other 10% becaus eof interest. And let's not forget the best part - when you leave they will send you a BILL for all the money they LENT you - PLUS INTEREST!!!!!!
Good luck in your career search - and always remember - these people are out to take advantage of you and they will do it by any means necessary - THEY WILL LIE, THEY WILL CHEAT - AND THEY DO STEAL FROM EVERY AGENT THAT WORKS FOR THEM!
This company is the scum of the insurance industry - the best thing I can tell you is if you want to know for yourself - DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THEM ONT HE SPOT - because the money you pay them is NOT refundable - call your own insurance people - the ones who insure your home, your car, etc - ask them if they know anything about health insurance (most do) and then ask them if they are familiar with IPA, ABBA, IAC and captive agency models.......... they will tell you horror stories I'm sure - then call other insurance carriers and brokers and ask them the same question. If you are going to represent a company, make sure it is one that you would buy from yourself..... not one that F#$%s people over and makes a healthy profit doing it.......
By the way - OBAMA will make sure companies like this CANNOT do business in this Country before long - so be VERY CAREFUL ABOUT WHO YOU AFFILIATE YOURSELF WITH......
