I would like to address this letter back to Pater in Salem. I feel like such a fool for trusting J.K.Harris! I took them to Small Claims Court in Cincinnati and won. I asked about a capias. The court told me I could not do this due to the fact that this is not a criminal case! What do I do now?

My wages are garnished, my money is gone out of my checking account and I am very frustrated. To make matters worse, they are still advertising on television (I just saw it the other day). I do not know how they can get away with this!

I filed claim with the Attorney General in South Carolina; they sent the complaint to Washington D.C. We'll see what happens with that! I called South Carolina and she was nice enough to call me back. She told me about the class action lawsuit and what a joke that was. She said there are 56.000 complaints about them. This sounds like an awful lot so I am wondering if I heard her correctly. I am going to Email the newspaper person that you mentioned. Any other suggestions? How can they get away with this!

You have to wonder...

What's wrong with what's left of our "democracy" that companies like this can still legally operate.

There seems to be a new predatory business model in America, exploiting the misfortunes of middle and lower middle class people who are having hard times. These are people who often do not have the resources/money to fight back and that's exactly the type of people these companies want to deal with.

The IRS does not have to negotiate tax settlements to collect unpaid tax debt in the same way that VISA might have to accept a settlement on a defaulted debt. The IRS has considerable powers to collect money, freezing bank accounts and seizing property and assets. The IRS may negotiate in very catastrophic circumstances. and this is something that you can do on your own. You don't have to pay money to a third-party to request a forgiveness of debt.

I would like to address Linda's remarks and to set the record straight regarding JK Harris. The statement that we have 56,000 complaints against the company is absolutely false. That number refers only to the number of letters mailed out to customers who may have been eligible for proceeds from a class-action lawsuit, which JK Harris settled solely to avoid the burden and expense of continuing it. We admitted to no wrongdoing in this settlement. We did not violate any law. The settlement has no bearing on the company's ability to service its clients and the Court did not decide in favor of any of the plaintiffs, in the lawsuit.
