Almost Happened to Me, Too 15" MacBook Pro 2.66Ghz $600

AUTHOR: mystiquehalcyon - St. Petersburg (United States of America)

I am *SO* thankful that I didn't just throw $600 down the toilet for a deal that seemed almost too good to be true, but looked legit. The message appeared as a sweet lady and seemed convincing enough, talking about how she lost her job in NY as an internet consultant and had to move in with her sister in the UK where things were going better for her but she still needed rent money so had to sell. This is a Craigslist***SCAM!!!*** Do not purchase anything from this person! Here is what I know and I hope you can avoid be snaggled into something. For the victims: I am sorry but extremely thankful that this site exists and that you all had the courage to place your stories on so others can avoid the same pitfalls. I had given my full name, address and telephone number already, too. Here are the emails. They must've gotten smarter because the original poster's ID for Craigslist was nowhere to be found on the reply. Here are the emails so you can see the similiarities. If it seems too good to be true, it likely is:

Hi there,

Sorry for my late reply but I'm currently in England, London. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States ( i was an IT Operations Manager ) and I had to move at my sister in United Kingdom ( here I found a good job ) . The laptop is still available, in perfect condition, and I will sell it only in US because here the warranty and the AppleCare are US registered. I can't use the laptop here in UK because it works on 110 V. I didn't know about this problem when I moved here and another reason why I am selling the laptop because I really need money urgently to pay my rent. I have attached some pics with the laptop to this e-mail so you can see the condition of the laptop. I bought the laptop 4 months ago and it still has 8 months of Apple transferable warranty remaining ( you can extend the warranty for one year on your name ). I hope you are still interested and we can make the deal happen right away. Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I would like to use a service that will help us with that:   www.tnt.com/tnt.express.london.depot/third_party_service.html   TNT is a worldwide delivery company (like Fedex, DHL or UPS). You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check the laptop before I receive the payment. If you are in a hurry, I will use 2 day delivery (on my expense).   Let me know what you think.   Best Wishes, Brenda Granger

Here's the next one I received:

Yes, the price is $600 US. Just to be sure about the transaction, here you have explained how the deal will work:   http://www.eutntglobal.com/express.london.depot.overseas.transactions.details.html   Thank You ! Brenda

And the next one:

Hello   Ok, we have a deal. The next step is mine. I will go to TNT with the laptop tomorrow and make the delivery arrangements. I will get back to you when I come back from TNT with the confirmation.   Thank You ! Brenda   P.S. Don't forget to send me your full name and phone number.

And the next one was from the shipping agency, where I started getting more suspicious:

Through this email we have the pleasure to inform you that the merchandise has been left in our custody. The shipping fee has been paid by the Seller. The Payment Information (in this case about the Western Union Money Transfer) must be sent to us for verification. The Payment Information that you need to send to us are: MTCN - Money Transfer Control Number, Sender's Name and Sender's Address, Amount Transferred. Please send us the Payment Information at:

  TNT On-Line Payment Service

We have found that providing email and Internet support allows us to give quick, reliable, and consistent answers to questions and concerns. Using email also allows us to document what was communicated in previous emails to you and to avoid duplication of responses. Phone support simply does not serve our members needs as well as email does.

Contact us with any questions 24/7:

TNT On-Line Customer Service

This is all they had to say. No phone support, only online, and let's get real, the popular shipping companies we use don't have a team of techs just standing by to inspect our purchases before they go out: red flag! I hope you don't get taken by these folks. Best of luck.
