Mafia Wars! Love the game. Anyone who plays it knows the better weapons, the more members the better the game. Well, this is where your good old "Godfather" (Code Name: Take your money and run) comes in. The Godfather will, for simply completing an offer, paying a small fee, and trying a product you might otherwise ignore, give you points. In some cases, based on the offer, lots of points. You can then use these points to purchase better vehicles, weapons and even members.

As you might have guessed that there is NO Godfather. He is actually a third party company named GetGambit by KickFlip Inc., who collects a fee from advertisers, based on the number of consumer who responds to their ads by completing an offer. Once the offer is completed you get points, they get paid everybody is happy. Only problem is you the consumer never get the points.

If you don’t get your points in the specified time then you may file a complaint to which there response will be “send us a copy of the confirmation email.” No problem, they are trying to run a business. Their reply to the email with the confirmation “Please send a screen shot of your confirmation, we no longer accept cut and paste copies”. And so the dance begins.

You send a screenshot; they want to know if anyone else completed the offer some other time. No they haven’t comes your reply. Their reply is to ignore you. Then you again fill out a complaint, and again they ask for the confirmation. Oh yeah, duplicate complaints will immediately be terminated. Who does this benefit, not the consumer?

As the consumer you get hours of frustration, computer generated emails, and products that you have to return as soon as you get them or else they want your first born, an arm and a leg. All I wanted to do is play Mafia Wars.

So before you complete one of those offers, remember buyer beware.
