Fake Craigslist Posting Leads To Fraudulent Charges

So, here is our story. My wife and I decided to look for a new apartment, so I went online to Craigslist.org to try and find something suitable. I stumbled across a great sounding apartment and intended to schedule an appointment to view said apartment the next day. The ad's instructions said that I needed to fill out their application and to include a copy of my credit report.

I was billed 1.95 for the free trial even though the site says its free - and then the very next day my wife checked our statements and we had been billed again already! They smacked me with a member fee of 34.95 in which i never agreed to anything. I tried calling and nobody answered their phone line.

Well I did some digging and it turns out that this company is owned by some scam artists called www.hugeclix.com who encourage their "affiliates" to scam people on craigslist.

(((ROR REDACTED))

They advertise on this web site that they allow:

"Craigslist Traffic Allowed"

Job Offers!

House/Apartment Rentals!

Auto Sales/Rentals!

Got a Creative CL Niche? If It Makes Money It Makes Sense!

So they are also preying upon people looking for jobs, houses, automobiles - anything you can buy on craigslist that someone might tell you you need a free credit report for:

this company will let you sign up and bill you fraudulently within the 7 day trial. Calling them is a waste of time... I spent an hour and a half listening to hold music. Me and my wife had to call up our bank and change cancel our credit cards just so this company would stop billing us... they ended up getting us for $1.95 then $34.95 then $34.95 again twice more all the first week and all while we were still supposed to get a free trial.

So if you stumble upon a craigslist apartment ad that just sounds too good to be true - and they ask you for a credit report from freecreditreports247.org it is a scam!

We had a great experience

AUTHOR: Jim Anderson - (United States of America)

I read your statement here after I used this company and I am not sure why you had such a bad experience.  My Wife and I are in the market for a new car and FreeCreditReports247 provided us each with a free credit report.  It was an easy and painless transaction.  Better luck to you next time.

Jim

Excellent company and customer services

AUTHOR: julia henry - (United States of America)

I applied for my credit report with this company but accidently deleted the email they sent me with my username and password in it, well I phoned the customer service line and got through to an extremely helpful lady who resent the email which allowed me to get my report immediately.

I was very impressed by the professionalism and speed with which they handled my problem and would highly reccommend them to anyone looking for a credit report.

got an email from Craigslist too

AUTHOR: Tammy JObes - (United States of America)

I was looking for an apartment on craigslist and I found a fully furnished 2 bedroom condo for about $1000 less than the normal price. It looked awesome but there was no contact number  - so I emailed them and asked a few additional questions...I got an automated email asking me to fill out a credit check but it didnt answer any of the other questions I asked. I was about to fill it out when I decided to check google and found this. Glad I found this you can't be too careful of craigslist scams.

So true, so true

AUTHOR: onewhocares - Seattle (USA)

Similar or same people using the sublet/temporary housing section of Craigslist.  Postings in numerous cities throughout the United States listing a need for a sitter for a resort-like, lovely, spacious 3 BR home with all the amenities.  Their response to interested parties' responses have included a link to the 'free credit report' site.  Same deal;  it's free!  No, it's not!  $34.95 or more later, and no way of contacting the vendor.  Lame but ingenious scam.
