I got two calls one day after another from some people, one with a british accent the other with a typical anglo-american accent, who say they're allegedly from RPM Marketing.

The recordings sounded like any typical scam; advertising a "New Revolutionary Product that will change your life!!!". Out of sheer boredom, I called the number they left just to amuse myself. A lady answers and says she's from the "National Event Coordinators" which after some reaserch, doesn't seem to actually be a real company or advertisement firm. She asks me what city I'm calling from; I say Austin, and she IMMEDIATELY starts telling me about how the RPM Marketing firm would like to blah blah blah... revolutionize my life and crap.

I play along like an idiot to see what I can find out. She started blabbing immediately after telling her my city; there was no way she had enough time to look up what events were going on in the city making me suspect that she was really part of this RPM marketing thing. My suspicions were strengthened as she enthusiastically seemed to know too many things about the company, its management and what they "do" but of course, in a typical scam style, she was reluctant to give anything but vague information.

Of course, she won't tell me what the "revolutionary product" is, only that it combines 5 different industries blah blah. I repeatedly asked her, and she wouldn't tell me; she's just like "come check it out".

I searched for the company and found two sites using the name "RPM Marketing". First is a North Carolina based company at www.rpmkgt.com which I believe is actually legit with real clients. Then there is www.rpmarketers.com which has every mark of a textbook scam. Not sure if there is an affiliation, but either way I wouldn't be surprised and really don't care.

She said the convention is going to be at the Airport Hilton Hotel (why do scams always choose airport hotels? Quick getaway maybe??) this saturday 18 OCT. I called the hotel, and there are two sessions: 10-1230 and 2-430 then with personal 1 on 1 sessions from 5-9. I would check it out myself if it were in Austin, but I'm not going to drive 80 miles to laugh at a scam. Wish something could be done to help any morons who fall for this, but like so many other scams, its probably all "legal". If anyone is bored and checks it out, let me know how it goes.

This site is meant to help consumers avoid ripoffs based upon actual meaningful information

Food For Thought

Rick -

I don't understand the purpose of your comments. This site is meant to help consumers avoid ripoffs based upon actual meaningful information not your opinion of what "might" be a scam. I'm actually one of the "morons" that went to the seminar and I can tell you, although the opportunity was not for me, it is real. While I was doing my due diligence on RPM, I came across your comments. Unfortunately, they added little value. RPM is a marketing company and, like most sales companies, they like to hide the "ball" until they can give their full sales pitch. It's the old, "If you can't tell them everything, don't tell them anything" approach. While many people get annoyed by this approach, it does not mean the company's not legit. I think its good that you were concerned enough to post comments, far too many people are apathetic these days, I just wish you would have attended the presentation before assuming they were a ripoff. Please keep in mind people like me look to sites like this as a source of meaningful info on companies. Thanks

Rick, thanks for your tip.

They called me this evening around 6PM but have sophisticatly (please) changed their name from RPM Marketing to either KA Marketing or MRP Marketing (hah!) depending upon who you believe: their add in careerbuilder.com or your own caller id.
