Supposedly I have downloaded the tv shows Dexter and some show called Eureka illegally through our internet connection.  The funny thing is that we do not even own a computer and run the internet for my xbox connection only.  Also our connection runs through a router so  I had a tech check to make sure it was a secure connection and someone was not hijacking it.  It was totally secure because Best Buy geek squad set it up.

And now I just cant cut my bill down to internet only plus this new junk of charging for digital adaptors.  I get sick to my stomach every month I have to pay the bill.  Plus the internet connection is constantly spiking high and low so for about 1/3 of the day the internet is too slow to connect to xbox live.  Ive called and they said I have a -4 strength.  Whatever that means.  When I move I am dropping this company forever.  I have never had a worse product.

Mediacom

AUTHOR: TruthSayer - Montgomery (USA)

You know your connection is secure because Geek Squad set it up ????  You've got to be kidding me !!!  Geek Squad wouldn't know a secure connection if it bit one of them in the butt.  Have you not done an online search of their shoddy work ????

And, not that I have any overt love for Mediacom, but they may well be correct here.  I strongly suspect that your internet connection is being used by one or more people close by, as that would certainly explain the supposed downloading of shows that YOU didn't do ( someone most certainly did ) as well as the lack of available bandwidth when you try to go online ( someone is certainly going online with it ).

To sum it up, from what you have stated, I don't think that Mediacom is at fault here, but rather your unsecured internet connection is the culprit for your problems.  Someone is obviously stealing your internet service, and it's not Mediacom's fault.  It's yours for believing that Geek Squad is reliable ( they most certainly are NOT ) and for not checking the security of your connection before placing blame elsewhere.

Ive also had it check by more than geek squad

AUTHOR: xmnemsim - west des moines (United States of America)

If you want to rant about the horrors of geek squad then you are more than welcome too.  I have also had it checked by at least 4 of my friends (2 or which are it techs).  It is secure. Unless you have actual assistance other than criticism then please ignore my post.

Please Define

It is secure.
- When you say it is secure please tell us what that means to you.

Since you seem to be 100% sure that it is secure, also please tell us what Geek Squad did to make it secure.

how it is secure

AUTHOR: xmnemsim - west des moines (United States of America)

My media com modem is not a wireless modem and the router that I have has the wireless completely disabled in the settings and the wireless physically turned off on the unit.  There are no wireless ports open and only 1 device is allowed on the router and that is my xbox

Seems a bit odd

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

There still doesn't seem to be the entire story because it seems a bit odd that you appear so concerned about Wi-Fi and not having a regular computer but you have no problem using X-Box live.

Now both X-Box and your router have Wi-Fi but you don't want to use them.  Instead you use a cable to "hard wire" the X-box.  Okay not really standard, but since it has a regular Ethernet port there is really nothing wrong with it.

But if this is your ONLY device then why didn't you just buy a non Wi-Fi router in the beginning?  What ever price you paid for the Wi-Fi router you could have gotten a better quality Non Wi-Fi router for the same or cheaper price.  Where there would be NO question if you had Wi-Fi turned on because it wouldn't have Wi-Fi.

As for connecting does your Router have logging ability?  If so can you search a history of the devices that connected to it?  Because each device has a UNIQUE Identifier(MAC Address), so if you see multiple ID's showing up it is possible that other devices have connected to your network and you truly don't have Wi-Fi disabled.

But with all of this, how exactly does this all relate to your original "RipOff".  Are you saying that because they said you illegally downloaded TV shows you can't go to Internet only?
