I cancelled AOL service in September 2002. They wanted to give me "free" coutesy service through mid December 2002 which I wearliy accepted. I was never billed for October and November but was suddenly billed for December becuase I had "opened" the net during December (how else are you going to see if it's closed?). The AOL operators are slick (sick). When you close your account with them, totally close it and leave them in the dust. I have heard the same story from other people so this must be a company directed policy. Beware.

I've been going round and round with these people at AOL : See my complaint "AOL making big Bucks" for details. I am still tying to get the bill off my phone bill. AOL promised after the last bout of 4 hrs of continous phone shuffles and being put on hold that the account was cancelled. My phone company even said they would not continue to charge me because I did not athorize the purchace (my 12 year old minor did- not a legal contract). Guess what? I'm still being billed!!!!!! (January 03) I feel like I am totally helpless!!!

Let me tell you what these slick (sick) people told me this time. They could not give me any information about the account because I did not set it up - even though I am the one being billed and I am the only adult in the household. They critizied me for the actions of my 12 year old but would not give me any info. about what he did and if he even used the account. I'm thinking this is about an account he said he opened and closed immediately after. But I don't even know for sure if I'm paying for an account he opened - I can't get any info!!!! because it is "confidential" - Is that totally crazy!!!!?

You know that little message you get "your call is being recored"? One time, I told the service person I was recording the call also, I wanted proof of my cancelation and delemmia. He said he could no longer continue the conversation because he did not concent to MY recorder. How sick!

Any way - welcome to the club. A club you really have to experience first hand to beleive! If you can figure a way out - with all your money in hand - let us know.
