I was approved nearly a year ago by GE Money Bank for a PayPal Buyer Credit account with a limit of $300.00. I have paid the minimum payment or above promptly each month since then. Recently, I received a letter indicating that GE Money Bank had opted to review my credit report and reduce my credit limit to $240.00. This was apparently a totally arbitrary decision, as I have NEVER been late or had any other issues with the account. My credit report looks virtually no different than it did when I was initially approved. It will look different next month, though. My score will be lowered as a result of this outrageous decision by GE Money Bank. I have not reviewed the cardholder agreement to see whether they have a right to do this. They likely do from a contractual perspective, but that they WOULD without any good reason not only deleteriously affect my purchasing power, but also my credit score speaks volumes about the kind of people at the top of this organization. I will pay the account off next week, never use it again and use every means possible to forewarn others of their unethical practices.

They are doing this to everyone --

Not just you.

Some think it is because of the economy- others think it is just GEMB screwing with its GOOD Customers.

I believe it is both - leaning more toward screwing Good Customers

If you want to voice you concerns about this - File complaints with the Federal Trade Commisision.

UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS A SIGN OF THE ECONOMIC TIMES..

AUTHOR: Sherri - Emeryville (U.S.A.)

GEMB is far from the only credit issuer cutting credit limits; even the prime card issuers, including American Express are cutting credit limits and/or closing accounts all together on long-time card holders. I have a 790 FICO, no negatives on any credit report except a paid collection from 2002 on Equifax, and I have taken credit line decreases. So far, I took an 11k hit on American Express Delta Skymiles Gold, a 5k hit on Chase, and even GEMB Paypal from 5k down to $1200. They actually closed my Chevron completely, as I had not used it in months.

Unfortunately, I think things are going to get worse before they get better. And yes, contractually they can decrease or terminate your credit at any time, for any reason they wish. American Express cut my limits because they didn't like where I used my card, apparently.

I would personally pay it off and just not use it. Keep it for age and utilization until you get some higher limits.

Shouldn't affect score too much.

AUTHOR: Nikki - Coconut Creek (U.S.A.)

Having your limit reduced from $300 to $240 should not affect your credit score too much, if at all.

If you had a $5000 limit and they reduced you to $240, that would affect it a lot.
