They make you subscribe and then charge you for the whole month after you cancel.

I have signed up for a free promotion ringtone download. They made me go through monthly subscription and suggested that I cancel my subscription after I download the rigntone so that I do not get billed for the ringtone. But If I liked to stay I could stay subscribed. One of this "try it for free" offers. So far so good.

I downloaded the ringtone and then cancelled the account as the offer said. I just did not want to pay 5.99 monthly charge for something I would rarely use.
Here is the ripoff. They did cancel the account but they still charged me the 5.99. I called them up. They of course "were very sorry that I cancelled my subscription" but I had to pay that amount becuase I "misinterpreted" the offer. One ringtone one day subscrition, keep it free offer turned into one month charge. Misinterpreted! I am not talking about rocket science here. It is as simple as "subscribe and use it, if you don't like it cancel and keep the product for free." What aspect of this one would misinterpret?
Any way, the amount is not big (=hamburger). But imagine how many thousands of people could get ripped off and how many thousands of dollars this company could get by just doing this to their customers? Don't let them take advantage of you.

If something is "free", and they want payment information, YOU ARE GOING TO PAY THEM.

No two ways about it, doesn't matter what "iron clad" or other "honorable" guarantee they may offer for refunds or cancellation.

If it's free, they don't need payment information.

If they need payment information, THEY WILL BE TAKING MONEY FROM YOU.
