The consumer filing this report should have given the original service provider, Eric Martin Watch Repair, a chance to make good on the original repair work in question. The mere fact that the business had moved has little bearing on the reputation of the company; Scottsdale is an extremely expensive locale for any business. I had my Rolex DateJust circa 1981 serviced by Eric in 2008 for $1100 and every part, including crystal, winding stem, and several other parts were replaced as invoiced. Watch had not been serviced since 1986 by Marcum & Co. in Washington, D.C., which had the watch for some 6 weeks! Eric returned my watch in perfectly working condition within about 2 weeks as promised.
I would not place too much credence on another watchmaker's observation, Rolex Authorized or not, as to whether or not parts had been replaced or not. These technicians want your business, and have been known to tell a lie or two to get it; watch repair centers have overhead to cover like any business. Watches are like modern automobiles today: very complex and often requiring another visit to the shop to correct the original problem. From my experience, I am sure Eric would have corrected the problem free of charge had the complaint filer given him the requisite opportunity.
I have just purchased a late-model Rolex Datejust from Eric Martin because it was half the price of a new Rolex AND I AM CERTAIN THAT THE SERVICE WORK DONE BY ERIC TO PREPARE THE WATCH FOR SALE WAS TOP NOTCH. This is a major problem area for buyers of pre-owned watches, Rolex or not.
