I purchased a 3 stone diamond ring for my now fiancee. I purchased it at 1499.99 at a local JB Robinson Jewelry store. I had it appraised by an independent jeweler and the result was $849.00. They lied and told me the diamonds were at least a VS2 clarity and color was at least an H. In reality the stones are I1 and I2 clarity and color is a J and K. I have written their customer service to try and get this resolved. If nothing happens, I am going to their headquarters and writing the CEO of the company. No company should get away with this!

It's best to stay away from Sterling

My wife is in the Jewelry business and your complaint is pretty common. The markup, even if they sell to you for 50% off is still over a thousand percent. For example, a $200 gold chain actually only cost them $20. A reputable Jeweler is the best route to go and avoid their mall stores all together.

JB Robinson -- my suspicious episode

JBR skips sending me statements. They only arrive every other month

The same thing has happened to me with GAP card.

Is it a mistake?? It could be a loophole in the law that creditors in the ethical gray area take advantage of. I do not know what laws would govern regularity of creditors mailing account statements, but I do know that the creditors still expect payment regardless of what they might send me. And then a late charge is applied and the finance charge increases.

Think about it. Even with bulk-mailing rates at a discount per envelope mailed, the volume of statements from a brand such as JBR would incur significant postage costs. Hence, on the front end they save on postage and labor/processing costs by simply not sending the statement and and then, with a high percentage of their account-holding customers likely not keeping track of how often statements arrive, they generate added revenue on the back end with late fees and finance charge increases.

When I called J.B. Robinson, it was as if a script had been prepared. She immediately tried to dominate the conversation. When I said that I have not been getting regular statements, she immediately replied in a condescending tone: "Now regardless, your payment is due on the 26th of the month, EVERY MONTH!"

Anyone else suspect this could be happening to them as well? Any insiders heard about anything like this?

You may be on to something here...possibly lawsuit!!! maybe i can help

As a former employee in the 30day collection department I have heard from irrate customers on several occasions state to me that they had the merchandise apraised and the 3000.00 ring that they are having a hard time paying(rediculous interest rates and the 10.00 processing fee doesnt help). Is only worth 800.00. I think there may be some truth behind this and i am willing to be part of any lawsuit on the company if the knowledge I know can be of any assistance

I heard this on a daily basis..insider tip from former employee

The comments i am hearing i heard on a daily basis working in the collection department....people with faulty jewelry and paying huge mark ups on top of high interest rates with rediculous late fees. I didnt blame them for not wanting to pay..ive purchased jewelry for my family and have had to take necklaces back broke real easy.

Did You Look At The Diamonds In Ring?

Been in the business 24+ years. Did you actually LOOK at the diamonds in the ring? I mean a blind man could tell the difference between VS2 and I1/I2 stones. It's a bit harder to tell the difference between H and J/K stones unless you do it for a living or have a sharp eye. I remember years ago, going into a robinson's and seeing a cart on their counter that had; Good=I3 Better=I2 Best=I1. As a matter of fact, I don't know if they even carry(have in stock) any VS quality diamonds. If all they did is tell you they were VS stones, you're probably out of luck. IF they gave you a written appraisal stating they were, you might have a leg to stand on. All the salesperson has to do is say, he never told you they WERE VS stones, "They just LOOKED like VS stones. I've heard THAT line many times over the years at many of those places. Remember, this is the same person who lied to you in the first place. Those chain stores suck. By the way, what was the total weight of the diamonds?
