After recently becoming engaged, my finance and I went shopping for our engagement ring. For us this was a very special event and we wanted to buy a ring that was precious as well as sentimental in value. We had looked at several stores and then came across Jared's Galleria. I remembered seeing commercials on TV about the great quality of fine jewelry advertised by this top jewelry chain. We looked at the diamonds on display and found a beautiful emerald cut 2 caret stone. My finance insisted I get what I wanted and I had always wanted an emerald cut diamond. The sales people at the store were very helpful and had us look at the diamonds through the microscope for clarity, and color, etc. The diamonds in this store are rated as IGI and these were supposed to be the best of the best. We as consumers trusted that this was the best our money could buy. After a couple of hours of discussion and looking at different diamonds in the store, we decided to purchase this 2 caret emerald cut diamond ring. Jared's assured us that we would not find a better cut diamond anywhere and the color and clarity was nothing short of incredible. After purchasing this diamond ring the bill was over $15,000. After purchasing the ring, we decided to have it appraised for insurance purposes. We took the ring to several diamond experts and gemologists in the area. This is when we found out that our $15,000 diamond ring was nothing that Jared's claimed. We found out the diamond was not graded right, and the color and clarity was way off from what the store claimed when we bought it. Jared's gave us a certification card that was equally flawed and deceptive. We were devestated to find when we had the ring appraised that the ring wasn't worth anything near what we paid for it. We found out that Jared's diamonds are known in the diamond world as the WORST diamonds you could buy and the store markup was at least $5,000 or more. Our ring ended up being worth between $3,000 to $4.000. All the other money we spent went to store mark up and rip off. Jared's stones aren't even GIA or AGS ( American Gem Society) quality stones. They rate their stones as IGI which is worthless. The ring wasn't even graded right and the color and clarity was also off. This is devestating to us as we spent all this money on a ring that we were told was the finest quality diamond we could buy. That was a total lie. We also found out that these diamonds are treated with chemicals that could make the stone chip. After finding this out, we tried to call Jared's to see if they would buy the diamond back or do something to make this right. They made excuses and hung up on us. The moral to this story is to everyone who is in the market for an engagement ring. Don't go to Jared's!!!! Their stones are rip offs and worthless. They are ripping people off. Now, we have the beautiful ring but lost about $10,000. It's really sad that this store would rather turn a profit and sell sub standard stones than consider it's reputation or it's customers. What is a diamond worth anyway? It's supposed to be a treasure and a special reminder of that special day in your life, your wedding day. Instead Jared's has turned the diamond business into a laughable joke at the expense of it's consumers wedding day.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Take the ring back

AUTHOR: Cristina - Bristow (U.S.A.)

I would just take the ring back, unless you've already gotten it sized....

Even then...

AUTHOR: Qwerty777 - Eden Prairie (U.S.A.)

Even if you have had it sized, you could probably get a lawyer and create a lawsuit over this. This will really only work if you have all the paperwork though. Just make sure you have everything saying what they claim the diamond is, and how much you paid for it, and then go to several different appraisers, and get a written statement about what they say about the diamond. You may be able to create a nice case out of this. Good luck!
