I rented one of her units located on Barclay St. in Los Angeles Ca, 90031 I was charged an $850 security deposit to move in. Six months later I find out that the electricity and the gas for the laundry room were connected to my power bill and my gas bill and I was paying for this. I advised her on 10/10/10 that I would be moving out giving my 30 day notice. 11/04/10 Cindy Cadena the landlord broke the locks off my garage and entered it. 12am I get home to find my garage unsecure and it had been burglarized. I went and asked her who had done this to me and she said she broke the locks off and had every right to do so because I should have been out on 10/31/10.
I was so upset I ended our conversation and went up to my apartment to find my front door had been unlocked and was also burglarized. I immediately started moving the rest of my belongings out that night. Before I left I had asked her about my security deposit and she stated to me that I would be getting an itemized statement of the charges and a check with the remainder of my deposit in 21 days. When I left the apartment it was cleaner than it was when I moved in, I had the carpet cleaned. I left no trash, I was not able to do a walk thru before I left because of the circumstances, so before I left I took pictures of the apartment. On 11/15/10 I received a letter from Cindy with an itemized statement with these charges.. Carpet cleaning $85.00 paint and blinds $60.00 five days late moving out $141.00 cleaning and labor $200.00 flea and tick spray $40.00 new carpet for the bedroom $60.00 and credit for the utilities for the wash room and exterior lighting $90.00 $586.00 in deductions $90.00 credit =$354.00 refund on my security deposit. (Is that legal) I hope that anyone that might be thinking about renting one of her units please don’t fall victim like I did… “(
