Stephen Jones From Lanphir Associates PAYDAY LOAN COLLECTION SCAM Castaic California

On August 10, 2009, I received a call from someone who said his name was Stephen Jones. The caller I.D. had the following number: 661-210-4688.

There was a lot of commotion and talking, etc. in the background. It sounded as if many people with foreign accents were talking at the same time. Mr. Jones had a very heavy accent and had difficulty with my name. etc. He told me I owed money to some pay day loan company in the amount of $400.00.

When I requested proof of the loan and the name of the company, he stated he was with a law firm which represents hundreds of pay day lenders and he could not provide me with that information. He told me I was being filed against on 3 counts: Defrauding a bank, bad check and something else I could not understand.

Stephen Jones stated that unless I paid $750.00 dollars immediately, that he would send two of his agents to my home to pick me up and take me to court. He said if I went to court I would then have to pay $7500.00. He said his two agents would be at my home within a day.

I requested proof of the debt and he said he could not send proof. He could only send me a confirmation number once the debt was paid. He had all my personal information: address, social security number, phone, bank info, references. He said my two references would be picked up at the same time I was and taken to court, as well.

He said I took out the loan on January 11, 2009 and that the lender might be National Payday Advance. When I questioned him more, he could not provide a phone number for them or a website. I requested to speak to one of the attorney's he presented and he sent me over to a young girl, who also had difficulty speaking English. She threatened me, as well, trying to read something about court and occassionally she would laugh.

I asked Stephen Jones and the woman where they were located and they said California. THey would not give me a city. I did a search on the phone number and it brought Castaic, CA.

I would appreciate any information or idea of what I can do.

I do not know what to do and am really concerned. Can anyone please provide me any insight into this. I did tell Stephen Jones that I would have an attorney call him and gave him a name. I have not heard from him since, but certainly expect to.
