I am a veteran who had everything going for me. A successful business and a nice home. The failing economy pushed me to my limits, slowly but surely eroding and eventually uprooting my business.  I had a hard time making a living after that. Finding work seemed nearly impossible.

Things got so bad that I ended up living in a storage unit for 3 weeks. I went to the VA for help. The Federal Government has a program called HUD Vash. They claim that it's there to help homeless veterans. Bulls**t. They didn't even try to help me. The woman at the Hud Vash office said "You don't qualify. It's only for chronically homeless vets".

Since then, I started a business. I rented an executive office suite. Nobody knows about this but I live there. I make the best of it. I'm trying to re-establish myself again - no thanks to the V.A.  I'll get through this and my new business will succeed. Meanwhile, the VA and the rest of our dysfunctional government will continue to support junkies and criminals. But the people who are really struggling in America - we're invisible. We don't count.

I will make it though this. And the point I want to make is - there is nobody looking out for us. There's no God looking out for us. The government doesn't give a f**k about us. We are all on our own.

I would if I where you, look up Kerry Witty she is the director of bay pines claims office

her office has had numerous cases of fraud within her dept, she has not passed a inspection by the VA IG's office but know one will do anything about it.

They are crooks and do nothing except what they want, they treat Veterans with disrepect.

Here is her phone number call her,

We have complained numerous times, if you want to file a lawsuit we will join in with you.

She is a demon from ?? and she cares nothing about anyone.

The people that work for her, treat Veterans like crap, unless you want to kiss her butt then they will do anything for you.

Do not go to the Vines hospital that's were the Gainesville VA send Veterans for inpatient mental problems, this hospital has a Doctors who called my husband female, when I looked him up the doctor he has a felony record in Florida.

VA Employees are Often Inadequately Supervised

I'm sorry you had this experience.  I take umbrage with your characterization of your fellow Veterans that are also homeless, as junkies and criminals.  An employee might well have been offended by your sense of entitlement and air of moral superiority; "victimhood."

You've been in the Military and you should know, how it goes.  Make friends with the Supply Sergeant and the Medic, because one can lose records and you'll be paying for field equipment when you rotate, and the other can lose your shot records, and send you back through that whole painful regimen again.

The VA is even worse at times, because nobody, is accountable.  They close ranks to protect one another and will lie in a heart beat to do so.  That's just human nature.

I am a formerly homeless, disabled veteran.  I needed a hand up, AND a hand "out."  I'm not ashamed to admit that.  Thanks to the good folks at the VA, supportive legislators like Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, I don't have to live in a work van or couch surf anymore.  I try to thank one taxpayer a day for my "blessings," and today, is your day.

Thank you for serving, and WELCOME HOME.

Dan

I couldn't agree with you more about the lack of care the VA shows. Additionally, their standards of medical care varies so widely both within and between medical centers that it's almost laughable (if it wasn't so sad).  Case is point:  my boyfriend recently died while under the care of the Mountain Home VA in Tennessee.  At a vulnerable point he was manipulated into changing his health care POA so that his son could control things. Despite the VA saying that he wasn't competent to sign it, they honored it nevertheless.  His son's actions hastened his death.

I have a cousin (Vietnam vet) who is treated by the Buffalo, NY, VA.  I call him frequently for advice on these things.  He was recently offered an increase in his disability due to prostate cancer.  He told them he didn't need the money and, although he just turned 65, he could easily work if he chose to.  They basically tried to force it on him.  Meanwhile, his brother in law can't get an increase in HIS disability despite being severly wounded during Desert Storm.  This is at the same VA!!  The inconsistencies in care are astounding.

I wish you the best of luck in your business venture.  Please know that there are vets everywhere (like me) praying for your success!
