    Corporate Advocacy Program
I've been a passenger on a motorcycle for over 30 yrs. Then I decided I wanted to learn how to ride. So my boyfriend and I went to HDOC to talk to someone about the Edge Program.

We explained to them, I have never driven a standard shift before.Their response was NO PROBLEM we can teach her how to ride. Then they asked if I knew how to ride a bicycle. I said yes I can. NO PROBLEM if you can ride a bicycle we can teach you how to ride a motorcycle. I guarantee she will be riding a motorcycle by the time the course is over. They told us.

I paid the $350.00 fee for the course, which included 2 days of class work, 2 days on the range. They said I needed riding boots ($115.00) riding gloves ($65.00), both of which I bought at HDOC because they knew best and they could help me pick out what I needed.

They never bothered to see if the bike they were using fit me properly. I'm 5'ft and have short legs. When I stood the bike up I was standing on my toes, my legs were too short for the bike. They saw that. One of the instructors had to hold the back of the bike while I walked it around in neutral. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU.

The bike (500 Buell) was way too big for someone who has never ridden before. While on the range, I went thru 3 bikes because the gear shift lever wasn't working properly.

Seeing that the bike was too big, and wasn't working properly right from the start they should have refunded my money. BUT NO, it was easier for them to let me try to ride a bike that I was uncomfortable with and didn't fit properly.

During the course I needed a little more time trying to coordinate the clutch and the throttle, which they did'nt have time for. But the one instructor had time to pass an inappropriate sexual comment. I was then counseled out of the program, (asked to leave) and told to go home and practice. Isn't that why I paid them $350.00 so they can teach me all this.

I then asked for half my money back. I did complete 2 days of class work, which included 45 mins or more of a tour of the dealership, which by the way had nothing to do with learning how to ride, But to learn about what you could spend your money on. I did not complete the 2 days on the range. Not totally due to my fault. They said NO they will not refund half my money.

So due to that response we will tell all our friends and family and anyone who will listen ( I work with the public) Not To Deal With Harley-Davidson Buell of Ocean County 300 route 70 Lakewood NJ. Also

My boyfriend and I own 3 Tractor trailers which travel from Florida to New Jersey every week. The back of their trailers will read, Do Not Take The Riders Edge Course at HARLEY-DAVIDSON BUELL of OCEAN COUNTY, for $350.00 you get a motorcycle that does not fit you properly, a motorcycle that does not work properly, and then you properly get asked to leave. What A Waste of Money.

When taking the riding course at a Harley dealership, the smallest bike they have is the Buell Blast 500. You'd be much better off taking the course offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) in your area. Riders Edge takes their curriculum directly from the MSF course, they just add a bunch of Harley fluff like the dealership tour. MSF courses generally have smaller bikes like Honda Rebel 250s (plenty small for a 5 ft. gal) and even smaller bikes. No honest training provider is going to guarantee that you pass the class the first time. It depends a lot on how fast you pick it up. Some people just take longer to get the hand/foot/balance coordination down. People who have never driven a stick shift car are most likely not to make it through on the first try. Check with the course provider on what happens if you don't pass the first time. Many will offer to allow you back to a later class for free or at a greatly reduced rate.

To find an MSF class near you, go to www.msf-usa.org and click on your state.
