i received a Sallie mae student loan and federal student loan, while in college i became disabled and had to drop out, being disabled i can apply for a student loan discharge, i had my doctor fill out the on line application and was discharged from the federal loan. i also filled out Sallie mae's on line disability form and mailed it in, then i got a letter from Sallie mae stating that they do not discharge student loans!!!! why is there a page on the Sallie mae site for disability discharge due to becoming disabled???? what a bunch of idiots. i don't know how to make them follow there own rules, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. one thing is that Sallie mae cannot garnish my wages so maybe i will just forget it and not answer the phone.

there's the infor from their website.
It looks like the process can take 3 years to go through with them to get a discharge. Are you totally and permanently disabled? If your disability is even a partial disability they won't discharge it. It looks like they are very strict on qualifying. From reading their site, you may qualify for social security and disability for your disability but not be disabled enough for them.
Just be careful, these loan people play hardball. Since its a student loan they can grab any tax refunds you may get from the government, or go after our property. Its really scary the stuff they can do. You are correct though, they cannot garnish your wages. You should probably get a lawyer involved.
