Bright Effects low energy light bulbs do not last as long as promised on their packaging and they do not stand behind the product unless you save your receipt!  The package promises 7,000-8,000 hours and my bulbs are getting no where close to that amount.  They cost five times what a conventional bulb costs and their value proposition is that they offer so many more hours of use.  Not true!  This os the third time that I've had a problem with Low Energy bulbs not delivering what they say they do.  Sylvania and GE are also guilty of misleading the public.  There needs to be a consumer revolt, or regulations to prevent this sort of misleading advertising.

Stop buying the bulbs!

AUTHOR: Ken - Greeley (USA)

Here's from your post:....."There needs to be a consumer revolt."  Maybe a bit over-dramatic.

Viva La Revolucion!!

Oh, and if you need your receipt to obtain the warranty, how is it a Ripoff.

Here's a simple solution....SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!!

NO RIPOFF HERE!!

#2 Consumer Suggestion

It's not the bulbs

AUTHOR: Josh - Rolla (U.S.A.)

I bet you are using these bulbs in totally enclosed fixtures where they overheat and fail.  It doesn't matter what brand of bulbs you buy, they will all fail, because they cannot run at high temperatures.  Either replace the fixtures or deal with it.  A regular 60W bulb that's run for 7 hours a day costs around $1.26 a month on your electric bill; a CFL is over 4 times cheaper to run.  Even if you have to replace them a few times a year, they will still save money.  The long life is not really the main selling point.

FYI

AUTHOR: Cory - San Antonio (U.S.A.)

Starting Jan. 2012, incandescent light bulbs will no longer be sold or MFG. Bought a dozen of those low e bulbs at home depot for five dollars and change. As a matter of fact, I bought 3 packs of a dozen at 5 bucks a piece. So for 42 cents or so I care less how long they last IF they are saving me a dollar or two over their limited lifespan. Also I have those outdoor floodlights on the corners around my house. Don't use them much. Have to replace one ever couple of years or so. Since they're gonna outlaw incandescent bulbs, the replacement LED bulbs are $48 frickin' dollars. Bought a 6 pack of the replacement incandescent floodlights to go with the low e bulbs. I just love progress as long as I don't have to pay for it.
