I too received a form letter from Wells Fargo re: stolen computers containing client names, addresses, social security numbers and account information. It seems Wells Fargo is trying to indemnify itself with a free year's enrollment in their Identity Theft Protection Program, though their "protection," to date, does not exactly inspire confidence.

Any information on grounds for legal action against Wells Fargo and/or Regulus Integrated Solutions (vendor which prints loan statements) would be greatly appreciated. In this era of rampant identity theft, such a lapse in security is astonishing and they should be held accountable.

Thank you.

show a little faith

AUTHOR: Mary - Omaha (U.S.A.)

I am a victim of the stolen computer theft myself but I at least have faith in what wells fargo is doing for me. You said in your letter that they should be held accountable. Well aren't they holding themselves accountable since they are offering a full year of free id theft protection? I personally don't think they need to do that since it actually wasn't at a wells fargo bank these computers were stolen from. But if anything does happen to your credit in the following years and it is in direct relation to this incident, they will take responsibility for that also. So just relax a little.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Wells Fargo IS at fault

AUTHOR: Jennifer - San Diego (U.S.A.)

I have a student loan with Wells Fargo and received the same letter you did regarding stolen computers with my personal information on them.

I have done a bit of research and found out that this is the THIRD TIME IN ONE YEAR that Wells Fargo has had computers stolen from them! When I learned this, I felt like I had to take further action. I am in the process of working with an attorney to see what, if anything, can be done. I am very angry that Wells Fargo keeps letting this happen. Being such a huge corporation, you would think they would take the security of their customer's confidential info more seriously. Apparently not. I am outraged that they have not taken the proper steps to prevent this.

I have been a victim of identity theft in the past and let me just tell you what a nightmare it can be. For that reason I refuse to sit back and do nothing. I don't trust Wells Fargo one bit anymore and niether should anyone else who banks or has any type of loan through them.

I faxed my copy of the letter to my attorney and am waiting to hear back. As soon as I get any more information, I will update you. I would recommed to anyone who this happened to contact a local attonery as well. It doesn't hurt to get a professionals opinon.

Good luck on this matter.
