I was sent a letter in the mail, telling me that I won $120,000.00 and was sent a check for $1,998.00 to cover the the taxes on the money that I supposedly won. Not thinking otherwise, I called the phone number provided and after they congatulated me for winning, they hung up on me.

They did that several times and I got really angry several times, because I don't have long distance on my phone and had to use my cellphone. When I finally got through to them, they told me to take the check to my bank and cash it and go to a Money-Gram, but not at Wal-Mart and get a Person-to-Person form and fill it
out. But, they told me not to put it in my name, but to put it in my husband's name and send it to some place in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

While writing that information down, they hung up on me again. That's when I decided to go online and find out what the problem was with this company and why they kept hanging up on me. Now, I know that I've been scammed and need to do something about them.

I can't believe that they would do something like this to innocent people. I work part-time to bring food to my table and to help with some of the bills that we have. I thought if I won some money, I could pay my disconnection notices that I have and the eviction notice that I have. But now, I won't have anywhere to live and my disconnections won't matter, if I have no where to live.

How can they do this to us? I live day to day in a run-down mobile home that needs repair desperately.
I hope they get what they deserve.

Keep your comments to yourself. I was ripped off and don't need your rotten comments.

Wow-there was nothing rotten about the comment

AUTHOR: John - Califon (U.S.A.)

He asked a question and based on his question and conclusion-that was based on your apparently incomplete story-he threw a joke out.

So apparently you did send money based on your surly response.

I wonder why they won't take a WU sent from WalMart?

#4 Consumer Suggestion

So you did send them money?

AUTHOR: Dave - New Westminster (Canada)

File a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission -- FTC.gov. You might also want to browse i3c.gov -- the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.

They have some articles which might be interesting. Sometimes, they do catch these people. Recently, a Canadian was arrested in Vancouver as part of the joint operation between the FBI and the RCMP. "Sundip Dhanda FBI" is the google search that pulls up the article from the LA FBI website.

The hostility in the other response to your report was aimed at the scammers, I'm sure.

Comments on what happened to me!!!!

AUTHOR: Ann - Bethel (U.S.A.)

I don't need to give any other explanations about this matter and it is none of anyone's business, but my own, what happened to me. I did finish my story and if you can't figure out what happened, don't make any comments to my story. It didn't sound like he was asking a question. It sounded like he was making a comment about my story. I'm very angry and don't need to explain anything else.

I get these e-mails all the time.

AUTHOR: Dennis - Tujunga (U.S.A.)

This is a very common scam. Several times a week, I get e-mails saying I have won a European lottery. I must be a very lucky person to win a lottery several times a week, especially lotteries I never even played. Why would someone, out of the blue, come to me and say I have won millions of dollars? I delete every e-mail of this type I receive. If they scammed you out of money, I feel for you. I hope you can recover.

I never said that I cashed the check.

AUTHOR: Ann - Bethel (U.S.A.)

I never said that I cashed the check. I just said that I was wondering why people like those
crooks shouldn't be picking on people like US who
live where I do.

If I ever find out who those people are who sent
me the bogus check, I will rip their hair out
and make them eat it. Then, you don't even know
what else I will do to them, because it won't
be very nice.

I have already alerted the police, the media,
the FBI and the FTC about those people and they
won't have a leg to stand on after they get a
hold of them. They will be in prison for the
rest of their lives and then, I'll be satisfied.
