Company was contracted to provide cleaning services which were largely unsupervised due to my work schedule. Approximately $1100 worth of valuable jewelry was taken from my limited collection. Other than immediate family (parents, siblings), no persons other than the maids had been in that area of the house during the period in question. As I have absolutely no reason to suspect family members (i.e. no crazy illegal behaviors or drug / financial problems!), and I had not worn those items for some time (but had certainly seen them in my jewelry box since the last time I wore them), I must naturally conclude that an employee of the maid service is responsible (and they were the ONLY service I used).
The company was informed. They questioned their employees, informing me that their employees denied the theft. With that, they denied responsibility completely. No offers of restitution have been made. A police report is being filed.
