I attempted to install the stamps.com software and use it in October 2007. I was able to download the program but each time I tried to run setup it crashed my system. After many attempts to resolve, I opted out and immediately began the process of cancelling my account. I called and was put on hold for more than 45 minutes. I e-mailed and was told to call. I called again and was put on hold again. I called again and was on hold for over 30 minutes before being disconnected. I immediately called back and received a greeting with the company hours indicating that they were closed. I e-mailed again and was told to provide certain information to close the account. I provided the information and received an e-mail back with an auto-reply and answers to frequently asked questions along with a message to contact them again if I still had questions. I called to find out whether the account was closed. I held for more than 30 minutes again and spoke with a representative who searched for my account by my telephone numbers, could not locate an active account for me and told me the account must have been successfully closed because it wasn't an active account. Next month I was billed again. I e-mailed again and was told to provide the same information to close the account by e-mail or to call. I called and held for 25 minutes, went through the search by phone number routine and the rep found nothing. But she went one step further and searched by e-mail address. She found my account, saw that I had never used it, went so far as to tell me that I even had the $25 in postage credits still in my account, admitted that they have the difficulty with cancellation a lot, but said she couldn't refund any money but was willing to "prorate" my service for the month of June even though we agreed I wouldn't be using it because I was finally able to cancel.

Unless you want to be married to stamps.com, steer clear. It should be called quicksand.com.
