My medical problem is that I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back.

Per Dr. Keepers suggestion. He did a surgical procedure (PDD & Discogram) in March of 2009.

Prior to this procedure, his office told me that my insurance deductible would be close to $3000.00, which I approved. Dr. Keepers is “In Network” with my insurance company.

The bill for this procedure did not arrive until late June. And was for just over $1500.00

Because insurance is simply confusing, I did not give it a second thought and paid the bill. The check was written and mailed July 2nd.

Because the procedure was not a success, Dr. Keepers referred me to a surgeon to fuse my vertebrae. In trying to get the paperwork in line to move forward the new surgery, I find that the $1500.00 paid to Dr. Keepers has not gone toward my deductible.

According to my insurance. Because he did not preauthorize the surgery (not following the proper in-network process), he was not paid by my insurance the full amount. I assume that the bill he sent me was to cover his loss.

My insurance also tells me that the bill he sent should have never been sent, or paid.

I have contacted his office and only have been able to speak with people who say that “this is not my job”. It has been over 2 weeks now, and have never heard from anyone from Dr. Keepers office since.

It is now going to cost me $4500.00 when it should have only cost $3000.00.

I am longer using Dr. Keepers, or the surgeon he recommended. Because I feel that they work together to scam insurance companies. But since I cannot prove this, I am not naming the surgeon.

The reason I feel Dr. Keepers scams insurance companies has to do the report of my March surgery. He lists procedures done on 3 disks, while only 2 are damaged. The 3rd disk he mentions has never been a topic of discussion by him prior to the surgery, or 3 other Dr.'s I have seen.

He also mentions a follow up office visit following the procedure. This never occurred.
